I contacted them 2 days ago...he is about 2 hours from me. There was already 4 people on a waiting list for him. I had them put me down too just incase the others didn't show. I am going to call and check up on him in the a.m. he looks young, so I don't know if he would be a fit for my uncle, but I would be willing to pull him and foster to keep him from being put down.

When you pull in the drive you see a 10 foot aviary in the front yard for the parrots. Normally there are several bowls on the deck, and in the summer a horse trough with the turtles in it. Walk in the door and to the right is a room with 3-4 large bird cages, and my "workshop for sewing/crafting etc.. to the left is the kitchen where you find 3 elevated dishes, and small bowls for the little dog and the cats. in the living room there are 2 big dog beds, and their toybox full of toys. Our room has several beds and blankets too. the hall has the cat scratching posts and in the storage closet there are cat boxes (in an attempt to keep the dogs out of them). Ther is also a tortoise in his 75 gallon tank in our room.

Great Dane Discussions / Re: In search of an older great Dane

I have talked to HH a few times...they have strict requirements, and won't allow someone to adopt a dog for someone else...they are like 4 hours from my uncle, so there is no way he could go there himself. They also have a bunch of other strict rules, and I am not going to jump through hoops trying to adopt a dog from them. I totally agree with rescues being choosy about who adopts, but I have watched the dogs on their site for over a year now, and I don't see hardly any that have been adopted. Anyway i don't want to turn this into a rescue discussion...I just want to find a dog that needs a good home, and needs to be spoiled.

I am in Central Ohio, near Mt. Vernon, my uncle is in New Philadelphia Ohio

Great Dane Discussions / In search of an older great Dane
« on: January 05, 2008, 12:25:41 am »
Ok...so here is the situation. I have an elderly uncle that has always had big dogs. He and his wife always had Labs. Well their last lab passed last fall, and his wife died about 2 months ago, he is all alone. They had gotten a puppy prior to his wifes passing, but my uncle has Parkinson's disease, and this puppy was a nut. It was chewing on his leg's etc. they ended up re homing her. He really wants a dog or cat. I suggested against a cat due to their leg rubbing...I am afraid that it may trip him, same with a small dog. I am convinced that an older Dane (calmer Dane)would be the perfect choice. Even without therapy dog type training every Dane I have had will walk next to me and they could provide a bit of stability for him. Fitted with a harness, he may even be able to have the dog help him up. Thorn is very good at this stuff. My uncle is a small man..about 5' 7" or so and frail due to his disease. He does still drive to town and is able to live alone. The perk to this is he is a Lawyer, with his own firm. He has more than enough money to provide anything a dog would need (millions) he lives in a huge house on the top of a hill, and his 2 grown children live very close by and check in on him often. No one is going to do the work to find him the perfect companion, and he told my dad he really wants one. I am more than happy to help him find a dog. I would like to find a dog in need, that he could spoil and be best friends with. If anyone in Ohio or near by knows of a Dane or hears of one that needs a great home, please let me know. I am also going to take it upon myself to visit and check on them both once a month or so. My dad would like to see his brother more often, and this way everyone wins. And in the event that My Uncle passes or can't care for the dog anymore, it would have a home with us.

Sorry so long, I just wanted to get all the details down.

Rottweiler Discussions / Re: I'm getting kicked out of my apartment
« on: December 19, 2007, 12:10:49 pm »
This really sucks. I am sure that Rottweiler = aggressive...:( People see the dog and assume it is going to eat them. Yesterday I was letting the puppies out to potty and the peple that trim the trees from the power lines were out in the road. The girls ran out semi barking (tails wagging) and the guys jumped in their truck. Even after I walked out there and said I promise they won't bite they are only 10 months old, they are puppies...he said yeah right. I believe everything happens for a reason, you have been talking about a move, maybe this is lifes way of giving yu the kick in the rear to do it. Chin up girl, it will work out.

So when are you boxing him up and sending him to Ohio? I love the pics of him with the "snow face"

here is a scanned pic...uh it looks worse. LMAO I drew them on canvas, and the scanner picked up the texture of the canvas, but you can see I did a pic of my Thorn as a puppy tonight. :P

I was in the mood to draw last night...so I got out these small "canvas' that I had bought. I started drawing a black dane, and it ended up looking like my Tisha. I'll try to scan it later for beter quality pic., but here is a picture I took of it. What do ya think?

Groans, Gripes, Brags & Boasts / Re: GET A HOLD OF YOUR KIDS, PEOPLE!!!
« on: December 13, 2007, 02:16:36 am »
Stella, you rock!!!

Little dogs and untrained kids drive me nuts too. I once had 4 little pomeranians attacking Thorn. I was in the street, he was on a leash they were chasing us. Luckily for them he just stood there looking down at them. I was ready to let him eat them!! If he had snatched one up and broke it in half I would not have felt a bit bad...

My kids aren't scared of any dog, I have tried to burn it in their head that they ALWAYS ask before petting a strange dog, and they always let the dog sniff them first etc. They do a pretty good job.
I don't take Thorn out much because he hates kids, he was teased through the fence at our old house by neighbor kids. Gracie and Morgayne are great with kids though, usually theri size stops kids from running up, although i encourage them to pet them when I see them staring.
