I bought a sticker for my car that reads..."we have enough young people...how about a fountain of smart" Seems fitting. LOL

Remembering those no longer with us. / Re: my best friend is gone

Thank you everyone. I am trying to remember the happy times I had with her. I keep reminding myself I had 11 wonderful years with her. She passed pretty quickly and didn't suffer for days/weeks etc. My parents are sort of cold when it comes to animals, and even they visited me yesterday and they both cried. They always got a kick out of how Tisha would pace and wait for me if I went in the house and she was outside or whatever. She was my velcro dog. She was with me through my divorce, being pregnant with both my kids, moving, my husband being deployed to Afganistan.... . she was the most loyal and devoted girl and I will always be thankful she was in my life. It seems like yesterday that the little black pup with the huge white paws was in my lap while I drove home from buying her.....

Thanks everyone. It is so hard on everyone in the house. Thorn my other dane, and Morgan my pup IW have been pacing and Morgan keeps whining. I think they know. The birds even let me sleep in today before they started their squawking. I woke up wishing it was all a bad dream...

I can hardly even write this. My Great Dane Tisha was fine yesterday. She was running around the yard, ate dinner, etc. She even got up and played a bit this morning. Then this afternoon she collapsed. She couldnot stand and couldn't even sit. We tookd her to the vet to find she had tumors on her organs, her liver, bladder, and gallbladder.Sh e was 11years old in April, and operating was not an option. he said one of tumors had ruptured. SHe probably wouldn't even last the night. We decided to end her misery. My poor girl wagged her tail when she heard my voice but couldn't even lift her head. I don't think I have ever felt this much pain. I feel like any minute she is going to come in the room and lay her big head in my lap...

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Ear Infection? Yeast?
« on: May 31, 2007, 02:53:02 am »
dogs with floppy ears are more prone to yeast. The ears help keep moisture in creating a nice environment for yeast to thrive. I would think if you have a good relationship with your vet they would just let you stop in and get the meds. if they are to busy to see her. My vet does things like for us. That way it doesn't get worse and her discomfort will be eased.

I called the breeder to inform her of the issues. She called back today and said "all the rest of them are fine" and "it doesn't sound like anything really bad, keep me posted"...grrrrr I just dropped a grand on a dog just to have it sick and spend another $200, because of your crappy care and all you can say is ooops.....Oh well, she is safe here and that is all that matters.

Our IW pup went to the vet today with yeast in both ears. It is a brown waxy buildup, the ear is red and warm to the touch. It smells sort of sour. In severe cases that I have seen when I volunteer at the Humane society and pound, the dog had hair loss and the ear was really swollen, like a sausage and very painful.
With ear mites I haven't seen as much warmth on the ears, and like someone else said it is more grainy looking, sometimes dry and flaky. They also shake their head a lot.
For the Yeast my vet gave me Mometamax 15GM, 8 drops in each ear. They already look less irritated.

She already seems like she is feeling better. She is learning what toys are and is playing some now. I have been calling her "Killian" today...but I don't know. My daughter keeps calling her Keelie for short, which is my friends dsughters name.....I don't want that. LOL

Last night I noticed my new IW pup dripping a bit of pink blood/urine on the kitchen floor. We went to the vet this morning (I had planned on taking her in for shots today or tomorrow anyway) Well, they did an ultrasound and her bladder wall was thick thick. She has a bladder infection and I had him look at her ears because they were warm...double yeast infection, and she has an umbilical hernia which he said is no problem, it has scar tissue in there and is closed so we don't have to do anything about it. He said cosmetically he can fix it when she is spayed. The breeder I got her from has been breeding and showing for 30+ years...but she raises the pups in a horse stall. I don't think thsy get much attention...an d obviously they don't get looked over well. I saw her filthy ears while I was there buying her. I just don't understand how you can have pups and not be responsible for them. :( Nedless to say, we have 3 weeks of Amoxi, and ear cream. and she will go back in 3 weeks for a checkup. Here is a pic of her with My Dane Tisha.:
