Anything Non-Dog Related / Somebody a horse whispere here?
« on: February 08, 2008, 12:15:46 am »
The madness happened - we added a horse to our pack. 16 yo gelding, big and very playful nipper :( other than that he is an angel.
And now my problem - I need help with basic groundwork from the step one. So far we stopped (ish) the nipping (by showing him a crop, he learns quickly) but if somebody here who remembers their first steps with horses would like to PM me, I would be really happy. I'm absolute blank page with horses, never had one and never even wanted one.
Currently he just needs work, work and work, he is bored to death and still a bit too fat (he had spent past six months in warm, cozy and small box without anything, and now he is overextited. He had been a driving horse, but there is suspicions that more than 10 years ago he was also used as a riding horse (just as a hobby horse, no professional training).

Newfoundland Discussions / To adopt 7 y o ?
« on: December 20, 2007, 03:38:50 pm »
I know, I'm mad but here at present moment a 7 yo certified therapy dog - Cecil need home ASAP and I applied. Before me is another potential adoptee but there are suspicions that it will not work.

So, if tomorrow I will say yes, what I must to know for 7 yo Newf girl?

She is quaified therapy dog, even quite famous here, and if she is coming to my house, she deserves to be pampered, poor old homeless lady.

I do not expect any beheivior problems, but would like to get from you other possible hickups - never adopted senior dog into my household.

I already have 1 GSD bitch who might be quite bitchy and 2 GSD boys who will adore here, I'm sure. We also have my rescue Grace - she is 10-11 month old girl, she is still a puppy so that can not be a problem.

Please, all suggestions and if you have an idea that it will not work, then say it too. I'm open for any ideas.

Here we are (most of us, but not all)

Thus, who wanted to see EESD - here is one example :D (He is just 18 mo old, so much filling must be done)

Saint Bernard Pictures / Before and after (30 days)
« on: November 27, 2007, 06:23:53 pm »
A month ago we rescued an abused and malnourished St.Bernard pup, believed to be 9 months old.
We still have long way to go, but here is her first picture at our house

and picture of her now, just a month later.

Grace will be never a winner of Westminster, but at least she looks so much better! And she is happy, happy, happy!
Here Grace is posing with my friend

And here Grace, me and friend's Weimaraner Audry.

Last weekend we spent in city socializing, socialaizing and again - socializing. We used all kinds of public transport awailable - train, busses, trams and trollybusses, and Grace did great. We also went to the shopping mall like House Depot where dogs are welcomed, and she did great too - she was petted by different people and had not shown any agression. She still is growling a bit to people who are entering our house, but less each time so maybe we shall get over it too.

Saint Bernard Pictures / How to abuse Saint Bernard
« on: November 17, 2007, 08:13:52 am »
If you are bored and want some actions to abuse the Saint bernard, first thing - find one.

i presume that one might be!

Check it out is it REALLY a Saint Bernard...

then grab it and throw...

One way...

or another

until it is completely worn out and does not move anymore

and then trow it into bed! Now that monster will be timid and obedient!

And if you are bored again, just press the "replay" button
:D
