Rottweiler Discussions / Re: Off leash in the house SO proud

if you sprinkle a little bit of hot pepper seasoning on the carpet he might stop. i had to use hot pepper oil to get loki to stop chewing on the alarm clock cord. do you know how hard it is to tell your supervisor you were late because your dog ate the alarm clock? and im in the military so it was twice as hard for me. oh dont forget that you can still vacum up the seasoning but be mindful of others in the house. your dogs nose is much strongers than ours so it wont take much to burn his nose and i asure you that it wont hurt him.

Rottweiler Discussions / yippy little dogs!!!
« on: July 20, 2007, 09:35:01 pm »
i thought i would share this funny little story with everyone. my rott loki is six months old. my wife and i are very stern with him when it comes to aggrisve behivor. we always scald him when he tries to chase other dogs and cats. no that he is a mean dog but i just dont want the other dog to get froggy on loki. well a friend of mine called me and asked if i could watch his dog for a week while he was on vacation. i had seen his dog interact with other dogs and figured his yippy little dog would have no problem getting along with loki. as soon as i get this yippy dog to my house it was play time for the two. all day for three day they ran around the yard wresling and playing tug with each other. well after three or four days loki had enough of this hyper, yippy little monster. loki is perfectly content with lounging in the shade all day. well this yippy fur ball wanted to play all the time and when loki didnt want to she would bite at his ears and lips. the day before my friend was to arrive home i was playing fetch with the two dogs. since loki has a 50 pound weight atvantage over the other he could get the ball just by sheer force. after about 5 throws of the ball the yippy monster decided she had enough of the big bad bully rott. after fetching the ball loki started trotting back to me when all of a sudden the yippy monster latched her razor sharp puppy teeth into the side of lokis face. the yippy monster was riding my rott like a cowboy rides a bull. well after a few seconds loki wasint having fun anymore and decided enough was enough and with a swift jerk of his neck the yippy monster was airborn. loki strutted over to me tail wagging as if he was on top of the world. the yippy monster flew about five feet away and landed in the grass unharmed. i was so amazed that loki was capable of such a thing and that he didnt try to bite or attack the other dog that i could not punish him. in fact a actully gave him a treat for the action. loki was full of self confidence after that and the yippy monster now knows not to bit a dog that can launch her in the next county.

Rottweiler Discussions / Re: Afraid of water
« on: July 20, 2007, 09:07:32 pm »
loki was scared of the water till i did what every loving father did to their sons, threw him in the deep end. he hated me for about two days till i got the leash out and took him for another walk along the river. once again he didnt want to get in so i threw him in again this time without the leash and he swam back to the bank looked at me as if i peed in his food dish so i loved on him a sec grabed a stick and threw it in the water. once again he gave me the go to h*ll look so i jumped in the river and broght him his stick. after he relized that i wasint trying to hurt him but just wanting to play whit h him he discovered the joy of cold mountain water on a hot july day. i used the same method with my yellow lab and it worked hiw her as well.

Rottweiler Discussions / Re: Need advice.. INlaws~Zeus

let em get bit. your inlaws will learn that the dog will protect what is his and im sure if zeus is like my loki he will just nip at them. loki has never bittin anypne but me and has ran the telephone repair man up a power poll. Itialians are skittish of large dogs anyway. have you tried locking the gate to your yard. do that and leave a sign at the gate that says call this number to unlock gate. and if your inlaws dont have a cell phone they need to get bittin so they can wake up in the 21st century.

just a little advice about big lap dogs. i would break him of lap sitting. my rott is upwards of 60 pounds and i hardly ever let him climb on the couch with me but i decided i could use a nap. so i called loki over to climb up and all of a sudden all 60 pounds came crushing down on my nose. needless to say i got a bloody nose and no nap. from now on my rottie is no longer allowed on my couch. but i will lay in the yard with him.

First of all as a fellow service member stationed in italy i know how you feel. i do not live on base but the people in my area could report me if they think i am neglecting my dog. then the itialin "human socity" will come and take my dog with no notice, no letter stationg where my dog is or how to get him back. or they can report me if he barks during their "quite hours." but as far as the SP's go they have every right to enter your yard without premission while on duty but it was not their place to get in your business. i get people all the time telling me how to raise my dog expecially when i bring him on base. the itialins can take their dogs ANYWHERE, restraunts, markets, sporting events, i even saw a mini poodle in a hospital. but i cant walk my rott throu the middle of my town without the carbanari trying to give me a ticket. so i do feel your pain dont let the SP's ruin your day because they all hate their jobs and take it out on every one else.

(I apoligze before hand for my spelling and grammer) My rott had a big problem with trying to race you stairs and walk under your feet. i relized that if my wife and i didnt correct this problem one of us was going to take a tumble. We trained him to sit, lay down, and wait. placed a treat on the floor told him to wait and if he tryed to grab the treat without permission we took it away from him and tried again. now that he has learned this, we havent had a problem since. when he gets excited over other dogs or children playing we tell him to LOKI!!! WAIT!! with a very stern voice and he is more than willing to please you. we have learned that using you dog's name before every command with a stern but not loud voice gets their attention when they are preocupied. the key to sucess with a rott the paitaince paiatince paitaince
