It's Wednesday, been a crappy day all around.  First all that stuff with the insurance, then my bf calls to tell me that I forgot to pack his kid a lunch this morning (which I totally, completely gapped about and feel horrible for), then starts to lecture me about it like a boss reprimanding an employee (as if I don't realize just HOW important it is for a child to EAT), then calls me the get this babysitter!!!!  He called me his freaking babysitter!!!!  Well this babysitter damn well quits!  I told him to take Jack to his parents place tonight, that I'm not available for babysitting services tonight or tomorrow.

So I'm sitting at home now for the night enjoying a glass or 2 of a lovely Niagra Region Riesling.  Anybody else that's had a stupid day, or even a good day for that matter care to join me in a glass?  ;)

I've gotten myself into financial pickles before, I seem to be quite good at it, and I've no idea how I do it.

Monday: My car insurance was due to be up for renewal, the company I was with hicked up my premiums to $250/month. YIKES!  I can't afford that, so I cancel, without any thought as to what the consequences might be.  So under the advice of my mother (always has the best advice whether I want it or not ::)) I called my lien holder because the new insurance company I found was going to take like 15 days to appprove my policy for $128/month.  Well now, the lien holder says they are going to  fine me $100 if I let my insurance lapse.  Well cr@p! that sux, so I get on the horn to the new insurance company, get transfered to like 15 people that don't speak english and I can't understand who STILL don't want to help me get the policy thorugh that day!  So I'm finally talking to a manager, who is VERY rude about it (and they don't even have my business yet?!) so I tell him to go f himself and hang up.  Now I'm angry, frustrated, need a cigarette which I can't have because I quit last Wed, and I still don't have insurance which I need by the end of the day or I'll get fined.  Okay, my old insurance broker told me that she could get me a policy for like $175/month, which is WAY better then the $250, but not nearly as good as the $128 which is why I said no to her in the first place and made the mistake of trying to go to a new company instead of the company I'd been with for 2 years and quite happy with.  So I call her back and leave her a message, that was probably all ranty and jumbled, and didn't make much sence 'cause she never got back to me that day.  I waited until the last posible momtent for her to call, but then couldn't wait any longer.  I called different company in panic and signed up for a policy that was like $200/month  :'( >:(.  Now the guy that set up the policy was super nice, and totally understood that I'm unemployed and can't afford that much money, and told me that if I needed to cancel within 30 days there would be no cancelation fee.  Awesome!  Or so I thought...

Yesterday: I finally got a hold of my old insurance broker and explaned my situation to her, she found me a new policy for WWWAAAAYYYY less then $200/mo, and less even then I was paying BEFORE all this stupid stuff happened!  Great, the policy is in the mail, I'm all set up!  Now all I have to do is call back the other insurance company, it's only been 2 days, so I shouldn't have a problem.  Ding ding ding WRONG!!!

Today: It's only been 2 days but I'm going to have to pay a cancellation fee of $338!!!  After I was told there would be NO fee!  Those rotten stinking, lying jerks!!!  They won't tell me WHEN they're going to take it out of my acct. Just that as soon as they process my cancelation form, it will be taken out.  They don't care it's only been 2 freaking days!!  I don't mind paying a little bit, I did use their services for 2 days, I don't even mind paying a prorated fee, but $338?!  I'm so mad now I don't know what to do, I should've taken the $100 fee from my lienholder, at least I wouldn't be going through all of this garbage.

Does anyone here work in insurance?  Can they legally do that even if they told me in the first place that there would be no cancellation fee? The recording at the beginning of every call says that all calls are recorded, could I make them go back and listen to that call?? 'Cause if I had've known that in the first place I wouldn't have signed the policy.  Wait a minute, I don't think I signed anything at all.  They have nothing with my signature on it.  Can I fight this??

Smaller Sibling Discussion & Pictures / Moo hates his Halti.
« on: March 01, 2009, 09:00:01 am »
Naja is great with her Gentle Leader on, it only took me 1 or 2 sessions to train her with it.  Moo on the other hand, is like a little possessed demon with his Halti.  Refusing to walk, slamming his little head onto the ground trying to get it off.  Is it just me, or are little dogs WAAYYYY harder to train then the big ones??  I'll continue to try because I hate taking him for walks 'cause he pulls and chokes himself.  But what else can I do at this point, he's almost 2 years old, he's my mothers dog, she really hasn't done a darn thing to try to train him, that all gets left to me.  Today I had him wearing the Halti on our walk, but I attached his leash to his buckle coller, just trying to get him used to wearing it.  He's not really treat motivated, but he does love car rides.  Maybe I'll have him wear the Halti while we're in the car, to try to get him used to it and associating it with positive things.  Has anyone tried a prong coller on a dog this small (he's 17lbs)?  Any other suggestions??

Smaller Sibling Discussion & Pictures / Poor Moo...
« on: February 25, 2009, 04:35:24 pm »
Poor Moo has bloody feet.  My step father decided to cut Moos nails.  Problem is Mr. Farmer, knows everything about animals, Mr. Animal Husbantry guy himself (I don't even know what that term means...) is too much of a Rammy SOB and didn't ask me for help.  So poor Moo had his nails trimmed WAYYYYYY too short!  This happened like 3 hours ago, and the poor little guy is STILL bleeding.  I used Corn Starch right away 'cause I didn't want to take the time to look for my stiptic powder, and I put socks on his feet.  Well He bled through the socks, so I found the stiptic powder, and at least one nail on every foot is still bleeding.  I've got the powder on him, and wrapped the bad feet with gauze and put fresh socks on him, but the poor baby is still obviously still in pain, and I was wondering if there is anything else anyone can suggest I can do for him.  ??? :'(

Got Naja groomed yesterday, spend roughly $35, that's not too bad.  Today I figure it's cold enough out that it shouldn't be too mucky at the dog park.  Well was I ever wrong!  The park was a giant mud puddle, Yuck!  But there's no point in turning right around and coming home once we're there, so I let them play and get muddy (Makes me glad leather seats just wipe off nice and clean).  Bring them home, get them dried off, luckily the dirt just brushes right out of her coat, she still smells nice from the groomer.  Well I was sitting at the computer, not paying attention, and Moo starts yipping at me, so I follow him, and sneaky Miss Naja has let herself out of the house!  The little witch has figured out how to open the sliding glass door that leads to the enclosed patio, and also how to open the patio door leading out to mucky cow poopy farm land! YUCK!  I see her still in the yard, so I try calling to her, offering all sorts of yummy snacks, but she doesn't buy it, off she goes into the calf pens! EWWWW!!  I throw a coat and my boots on and give chase, I catch up to her eating calf sh*t and hay **which she loves but always throws it up about 12 hours later**.  She knows she's in trouble, but she will NOT drop that one juicy ball of poop and hay, and she takes off.  Anyways, by the time I finally get her home, she's got splashes of mud and poo all over her and now deperately needs yet another bath.

Oh well.  I'm gonna bath her in the tub this time, it takes me twice as long as the groomer, and we make one heck of a mess trying to clean her up, but $35 is $35 I guess.

I didn't want to take over the What Do We Look Like thread, but I really wanted to talk more about your bike.  When did you start riding? What type of bike is it?  How do you enjoy riding seperately with your husband, as opposed to riding on the back?  Another one that I gotta ask that bugs my boyfriend Mike, is how often do you like to stop?  I like to stop every 45 mins or so to go to the bathroom or get coffees.

I go against the grain a little, the bike I would like is not a Harley, the pink chopper was nice to look at, but what I really want is a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom or a Hyosung Aquila 650, both really fun looking bikes.  But blinged out with lots of chrome and some nice Jesse James style pipes.

He is for what I can tell mostly Great Pyrenees, but his looks are slightly off.  His ears are set a little high on his head, his snout is slightly more narrowed, and he also only has single dewclaws on his hind legs.  I've taken some pictures of him but forgot my camera at Mikes apt, I'll bring it home and load it tomorrow hopefully.  He's small too, much smaller then Naja, but with all the fur you can hardly tell.  His current owner rescued him from some Menonites that were going to shoot him because he was a terrible guard dog (too friendly and sociable with people).  Bear came to my house last night to visit (he's an outside dog with no fencing or boundries), and when my mother and I took him home, his owner asked us if we might be interested in keeping him?  Terry (his current owner) says he's not around enough to give Bear the attention and care that he needs, and he doesn't want anything bad to happen to him.  We told him we'd think about it.

I REALLY want to give Bear a home here.  When he was here, he and Naja got along farely well, other then the fact that he's not neutered and kept trying to mount her.  Moo on the other hand literally FREAKED, we kept him inside, and it souned like someone was torturing him his screaming was so loud you could hear him inside the house behind closed doors from about 100' away.
Now Bear has always been an outside dog, so I don't think he'd like living inside, and being crated, etc.  He'd also have to be neutered and be given a thorough check out by my vet, and would absolutely HAVE to have a good grooming.  Then there's the cost of adding a third do to our household, I'm unemployed right now, and don't have that much to begin with.

He's very well mannered, quiet, sweet, playful, beautiful (besides all the dirt), and he just seems to love it here, last night was the 3rd or 4th time he's snuck over here to hang out with us.

What do you guys think?? (and I promise to post pics tomorrow)

I was just thinking about a few of the things that I love most about having a big dog, and I thought it would be fun to hear what everybody else thinks too.  :D

So one thing that I love about having a Big Paw in my life is that I don't have to bend down to pet Naja.  When she is sitting, her head is at the perfect height for me to scratch behind her ears while I'm standing.

So what are some of the silly things that you love about owning a big dog?  :D

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Should I?
« on: January 30, 2009, 05:15:57 am »
I was thinking about making a Vest for Naja.  Kindof like a service dog vest that has a big stop sign on it, and something that says, "I'm in training, please don't approach me".  I want to do this because Naja is okay when out on walks, but I want to desensitize her to being in large groups of people, but I don't want people to come up to her (I'd like to work up to that).  I can't afford a professional trainer right now, but I want to work on her manners while out in public.  I know this is something that we should have been working on since she was a pup, and we have, just not consistantly, and we live on a farm in the middle of nowhere so it just isn't that easy sometimes.  But I figure that with me not working right now, I've got lots of time to try a little harder at socializing her.  What do you guys think??  Also what should I do about her barking at little kids?  She's great with Jack (my bfs kid), but lunges and barks at every single other kid we meet... :-[  I've constantly got to keep her on a short tight leash.

Great Pyrenees Pictures / Some new pictures of my Monsters.

Haven't posted any new pics lately, and I took a bunch over the holidays.  So here ya go!

This is Naja's newest favorite spot to veg in Mikes apartment.

staring at Jack from her "perch"

Some pics from the dog park!

This was just a beautiful Dane with a super snooty owner, as soon as the poor dane would start looking like he wanted to play the owner would call him away.  Plus he wouldn't talk to me, he kept avoiding my questions and giving short non commital answers.  :P

They did get a chance to play a little though.  :)
Some other puppies, Oh!  Here's Marley the Newf!  I love her!

They played SOOO good together!

Had enough yet??  ;D

Just a little vent about my cr@ptastic day.
I had an appointment today for 8 am to have my oil and transmission fluid changed today, I woke up at 8.  was an hour and a half late getting to the garage.
That's fine, whatever, I stopped at Tim Hortons to grab a coffee for my mechanic to say sorry for being late.  Car was in the shop for about 3 hours.  When it was all finished I got in her to start her up and drive her home after paying Geoff (my mechanic) $100 for the servicing, turned the key, and my car wen KURCHUNK KURCHUNK and then it died.  Geoff nor his hired hand, nor myself can figure out what the heck is wrong with my car, their computer won't read my car because it's a Dae Woo with a Chev emblem on it.  I'm able to keep the car running by constantly keeping my foot on the gas, so I say fine, I'm taking to the dealership where I got it, and they can fix it, only problem is, my warrenty ran out like 4 months ago.  Whatever, I can't afford to be paying for a car that I can't drive because it's broken, even though I've just been laid off, now have a grand total of $93 to my name, and this could cost anywhere between $200-1000 depending on what the heck is actually wrong with my stupid car.
I call my mom.
She convinces me to DRIVE it home, and then have a tow truck take it into town from there!
That was a terrible idea.  In order to get my car home I had to constantly have one foot on the break and another on the gas, I ran 2 red lights because I wasn't sure if I could get it going again, and was terrified the entire way home.  Fine whatever, I got her home by 3:30, and called the tow truck, the CAA person told me that a truck would be there within the hour.  That's good, because I have an appointment at the school I used to go to, to practice for a test to upgrade my welding certification, that's at 5.  The towtruck doesn't get to my house until 5:30!!  When he does get here, the driver is rude, and miserable, my boyfriend Mike locks his keys in HIS car, and the towtruck driver throws a fit when I ask him if he wouldn't mind unlocking Mikes car before he takes my car to town.  I have to literally call CAA to have them issue another PO# and add it to my bill when the door unlock thing takes like 2 minutes.  Whatever.
I finally get to the school by 6:15ish, I forget my resume that I was supposed to fax, I now have a headache that could kill an elephant, and I can't weld worth a darn cause I'm so stressed out I want to cry.
My mother said she was going to pick me up from the school on her break from work at 9:30, she forgets me, I call her at 9:45, standing outside in like -19 degrees, and finally get picked up at 10:00.
I drive her back to work, stop at a store on my way home, and pick up some gingerale.  Now it's 11:30, I still have my headache, but at least I've got myself a nice strong drink of Rye and Ginger.

Sorry for the length of my little rant, thank you for listening.
