Holiday Things / A reminder.
« on: December 19, 2008, 12:18:05 pm »
about how wonderful my BPO friends really are!  As I have said on here before, I was lame, and missed the cut off date for the SS and Card exchange.  And honestly, I've been so busy with work, getting laid off, going back to work, then being told I am getting laid off again.  Then there's Mike and his son taking up alot of my time too, anyways, I haven't really put too much thought into it.

Anyways, my point is I have received a couple cards now from some fellow BPOers.  I guess you ladies kept my address from last year, and I just wanted to say thankyou, you're so very thoughtful.  And with all the cr@p that has been going on in my life right now, when I look at my mantle I can't help but smile.  That means the world to me.

I'm getting all soft and mushy now, so I'll just send out a great big cyber hug to BPOers everywhere.  And say I hope you all have a very merry Christmas, happy Hanukah, or whatever you celebrate, may it be filled with happiness, joy, and good health for yourselves, and everyone you hold dear to your heart.

I've booked an appointment with one of my areas best known dog trainers.  I'm at wits end with Miss Naja.  I don't really know what to do about her aggresion issues, so I'm getting professional help.

I've been keeping this to myself mostly, but Naja and I have been struggling with her fear aggresion.  Whenever presented with a new person or situation she will react with snarls, barks, and growls.  She is extremely territorial, which I know is definately a Pyr trait, but when I invite other dogs into the house or onto the property, I need for her to accept that it was my desicion, and accept then into the house and property as well.  She has jumped at and frightened children and people in Petsmart, and it's just getting to the point where I'm nervous bringing her out of the house.  She's never bitten anyone, but I feel as though it could be getting to the point where she could bite.  So I've inlisted the help of a man named John Wade, my vet recommended him.

Just out of curiosity though, has anyone here heard of him?  I'm unsure of his methods, it doesn't sound like he uses positive reinforcements like treats and such.  Here's his website. http://www.johnwade.ca/.  Anyways, he's coming at 1:00 on December 29th.  Any hints or tips for me would be great.  Also, one strange thing, he wants me to try to get video footage of Naja being aggresive.  How should I go about doing that, I mean, I try to avoid situations where there is a chance she could react badly, do I go out and purposely put her in those situations now?

Okay not really, but that's what this picture looks like to me!  I was looking up Drahthaar's because I read it in Yellow_Dog_Mom's signature, and I'd never heard of that dog breed.  This is the first picture that came up when I Googled the name.  lol!

It looks like the dog and the deer got the hunter, and all that's left of him is his gun and vest...

Great Pyrenees Pictures / Happy Holidays BPO!
« on: December 07, 2008, 11:03:37 am »
I was too late for the card exchange and SS this year, so I took some pictures of the monsters today and these are what would have been on my cards!  I'm a freak and my dogs hate me right now, but I'm okay with that, 'cause these are some cute photos. So without further adoo, here are my Christmas Puppies

What's going on Mom? what are you doing with that hat, and the camera??

Oh no, not this again!!!

You are truly evil.

Fine we'll sit still.  But only if there's cookies involved.

And some from last night that I thought were cute.

Okay, my step sister is coming over, that's great, she's awesome!  She's bringing her new dog, a English Bull Dog named Mega.  Mega's really cute so of course I'm going to take lots of pictures.  Now for the problem.  Mega is a little aggresive, Naja is very dominate, and a little aggresive herself.  They have not yet met, there is no way to take them to neutral ground because my mother is having a holiday party today and I can't get away.  What do I do????  I will take Naja outside to meet him, they will both be on leash for at least the first 10-15 minutes, and there will be lots of treats on hand.  Does anyone else have any other suggestions??   ??? ??? ???

Great Pyrenees Pictures / Mmmm... I Loves spaghetti sauce!!
« on: December 01, 2008, 08:34:26 am »
My mum likes to keep food and such out on the back dek, because it's nice and cold out.  Well, not knowing about the left over spaghetti that she was keeping out there I put Miss Naja on the deck so she doesn't scare our poor housekeeper while she's here.  I looked outside to see my beautiful orange faced troublemaker just after she'd finished licking the pot clean.  So what do I do?  I run for my camera of course!

"What Spaghetti?!  I don't know what you're talking about!

Okay, okay, it was me all along... Ca I have some more please?!

I just came back from the dog park, I've been laid off for the past 2 weeks and have been able to get out almost every day now.  Most days at the dog park are enjoyable.  Naja will play and rough house with the other dogs there big and small, I get to chat with other dog owners, it's nice.

Today started off pretty good, we walked around 3 or 4 times, chatted with other owners, Naja found a miniture boyfriend ( a little toy poodle that had the biggest crush on my Miss Naja).  We were on our way out, both Moo and Naja were on leash and there was this what looked like a golden retriever mix that came over.  He started growling and snarling at Moo (who for those of you who don't know us is like 17 lbs).  Naja kept a close eye on it, then the dogs boy (maybe 12 or 13) came and got the dog, thats fine, it's under control, and we're on our way out anyways.  We almost make it to the gate when that d@mn dog comes over again and bares it's teeth at Naja, gets it's hackles all up, is snarling and growling and looks like it wants to tear my girls throat out.  Now I'm not worried about Naja being able to defend herself, but I am worried about a lawsuit if she hurts this dog, plus she needs to know I'm the protector, not the other way around.  So I get myself between Naja and this dog.  I shout NO!  Get out of here!!, and the dog slinks away.  Fine, it's dealt with, we're leaving anyways.  Then the stupid owners of the dog chime in "Thats why they call it a dog park eh!"  Well now I'm p!ssed, I shout back that if their dog is aggressive they should not be taking it to the dog park, it is not a place to bring your dog to get a laugh at how many fights it can get in.  Then I turn around and leave, have a quick chat with another person who's also leaving, about those people and their dog (he always leaves when he sees them coming in).  I get in my truck and go to leave.  Well the father and the son come down to the gate and the kid has a snowball in his hands, so I stop the truck and wait for him to throw it so I can get out and tear him and his parents a new one.  Soon as the kid sees me looking at him, he drops the snow ball.

Sorry bout the length, I just needed to get that off my chest.

Alex   :)

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Resource Guarding?
« on: September 05, 2008, 09:02:04 am »
I'm having a difficult time with Naja currently, and I know that it is all my fault, due to lack of early socialization.  But I'm coming to you, my BPO gurus for guidance and advice.  :-[ :)

Naja is really bad for resource guarding, so bad in fact that when I took her to Kitchener to visit my girlfriend Morgan and her new puppy Dennet, she nearly ate poor little Dennet for trying to share Naja's water bowl.  Then again, after I reprimanded her when Dennet tried to get some lovins from me.

She will guard food, water, toys (even toys that don't belong to her!), and me!  She does this with every single dog we meet, other then Moo.

So my question to you is, how do I reverse this?  I need to know that I can bring her places with me, and that she'll be welcome back, not banned from visits for being a mean bully.  I want to be able to trust her with new puppies, I do eventually want another BP when Mike and I move in together, and I don't want her trying to eat the puppy for being a puppy!  :o

Has anybody here ever tried Dog Sledding?  I've been cruising through some sledding sites and it makes me want to move North and get myself a sledding team!  lol

Check out the dogs on this site - I don't know about you, but it makes me want a full lifestyle change, who needs summer time when you could be doing that!

Anything Non-Dog Related / NDR - -Cat behaving strangely - update
« on: August 17, 2008, 12:00:26 am »
So I'm in Barrie visiting my cousins, and they have a cat.  The cat has been upstairs all day (This is normally a very social cat) lying in a bed.  We just noticed a few hours ago that the cat is lethargic, he is moving his head side to side uncontrollably, and his eyes are going back and forth uncontrollably .  He has no balance if we try to stand him up, and cannot seem to see if you place your hand in front of his face and move it around.  Another this is, he hasent stopped purring in almost 5 hours.  He got out last night, and seemed fine when he came in this morning, however there was a little bit of vomit outside, but my cousin didn't know what it was from at the time.  We went out for a little while tonight, and whe nwe got back the cat had fallen off the bed and had vomited on the floor, and could not manage to get himself back on the bed.  We were going to see how he is in the morning but have decided to take him to the emergency vet tonight.  My question is, what do you think could cause this??  I'm very worried about him.  His eyes are dilated all the way, and he is non responsive to any stimulus.  ??? :(
