Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Toxic foods for dogs
« on: August 20, 2007, 03:14:06 am »
I didn't think so, but you never really know for sure until you ask. :)
I'm glad no one thinks their bad, I wouldn't want to take away a treat that they like so much.
Hey, thanks eh!  :D

Thank you for the information,  I had no idea about Broccoli, I'll be forwarding this on to my aunt who often gives her two small dogs bits of it raw as treats.  And does anyone know if Carrots are okay?  We often give our pups baby carrots as treats, I have noticed that it doesn't really digest (there are always bits of orange in their poop after they have a carrot) but is it particularily good or bad either way for them, or does it just not matter?

Puppies 1; Alex 0!
Here's the background,  I took the puppies for a walk a while ago, we live on a dirt road and it's been raining so they got quite muddy.  When we got back to the house I got them some fresh water and left them on the porch (We have a nice covered porch that's all screened in) for them to dry off.  I went in and started dinner, cleaned the kitchen, loaded the dishwater etc.  When I figured they were dry enough (maybe half an hour) I went out with a towel, wiped off their dirty paws and brought them in to have the rest of the dirt brushed out.
Anyhoo, dinner time came along and the puppies were hungry so I went out to the porch where I keep their food seperated in sealed tupperware containers.  Well lo and behold Moo's (the Cairn Poo) food container had been knocked over, opened up and emptied of all contents!  There was a good 7 or 8 cups worth of food still in there, enough at least to last the little one till the end of the week.
Now I notice Naja's tummy is a little swollen, not huge mind you, but definately full of food.  Now I'm worried about Boat.  I don't know if I should be, but I've been reading so much about it lately that I'm kinda worried.  Could eating that much food cause it, and should I give her water, she's awfully thirsty, but I'm scared that if I let her drink, then the food (Which we were planning on switching to a grain free food that won't expand at all) will expand in her tummy causing her to be sick or worse get bloat.  Is this something that I should be worried about?  Am I being silly?  Should I take her to the vet?  She did already have one small poop since I noticed the food gone.
Someone help me please!  I'm making myself crazy worrying so much.  My step father says that she'll be fine, but he's not so much a dog person as more a cow person. (We have a dairy farm)I could use some advise on whether I'm being silly or not.
Thanks
Alex

Poor Yukon!
Well I hope all goes well at the vet tomorrow, and that there is nothing wrong with him that alittle bed rest can't fix.
Naja and I are sending happy thoughts your way.   ;)

I know it's only been a few days, but I was wondering if you had any updates on Mr. Big yet?
I'm pulling for you (as I'm sure everyone else here is too)!
Please keep up up to date on all that's happening, I wish there was more I could do to help.  I hope my happy thoughts help.  Keep your chin up, good things happen to good people.  ;)

Meet & Greet BPOers / Re: BPOers in SW Ontario?
« on: August 18, 2007, 09:55:29 pm »
Fall sounds great, I have a few days off work before I start school on September 24th.  From that day forward I will only have weekends available.  :D.

I've got family in Hamilton and Stoney Creek, so Brantford is an easy trip for Naja and I.
I'm trying to get her used to car rides a little bit at a time, so if we have time, we're always ready for a road trip. :)
Yay!!  Meet and Greet!!

Also I think a meet and greet for BPO'ers in SW Ontario would be a great idea.  Any suggestions as to when and where, I know I would be more then happy to make the trip.  ;D

Meet & Greet BPOers / BPOers in SW Ontario?
« on: August 12, 2007, 11:23:19 am »
Hey there!
Are there any BPOers, or Pyr owners living in London Ontario or the general area around London?  Just curious, would love to have a BP friend for Naja to play with!

I'm so sorry they took that beautiful boy away from you!  The police are fools, and you should absolutely try to take this all to a higher level.  Maybe write to your local newspaper.  I don't know what the laws are in your area, but could you maybe file some sort of ownership suit??  With all the vet bills you've accumulated, and food, and shelter, and how long you've had him, and how they just left him there, you could maybe take it to a small claims court and either sue for the money you've put into him or ownership of the dog himself??
My heart goes out to you and Mr. Big right now.
I'm hoping for the best.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Funny story!

So I followed the link that you provided MaryPyrs, and started snooping around on that website when I came across this, I guess it's a blog.  I haven't even finished reading it, but I thought I'd share, cause it is too funny and cute to keep for myself!
Look around on this site for those of you who haven't been fortunate enough to go here yet, there is ALOT of information regarding a whole lot of stuff, plus these cute stories under "Sophie's World".

I agree, it took about a week solid of Naja crying almost all night long for her to finally get used her crate and actually sleep in it (and let the rest of the house sleep).  Her crate is in my room in the basement, so she really only goes in there at bed time, but when you tell her it's bed time she goes straight to her bed.  She manages to sleep the entire night, but I still keep the door closed to avoid waking up to a mess in the morning.

I actually love grooming. It's relaxing and it's almost like therapy. Gives me one on one with each dog. And the best part is that they don't mind it at all except when it comes time to clip the nails. I keep that till the end.

As strange as it seems, clipping the nails is the one part of grooming I can actually get Naja to sit still for!
The pictures are wonderfull of course, what a Beautiful boy you have!

Great Pyrenees Pictures / Finally pictures of Naja (and Moo)
« on: August 12, 2007, 03:30:50 am »
Really sorry it took me so darn long to get some pictures of Naja up on here!  Word has been constant, so I haven't had time to do much of anything that didn't involve working or spending quality (non-computer) time with the puppies.  ;)
Anyhoo!!!  The long awaited pictures of my girl!  Also in the pics are Moo, our Cairn Poo, you should see them play together!  it has to be the cutest thing I think I've ever seen!
He only weighs about 6 lbs, and she's already 30!
Oh that reminds me, I've gone through the food forum on here, but am still unsure of what I should be feeding her.  I've got her on Large Breed puppy food, but she seems to be growing far too quickly; should I look for Giand breed puppy food, or switch her to adult food with a lower protein percentage?  Also I'm going to be getting her on liquid Glucosamine, do you think that's a good idea? If so what else have you guys used in the past to help protect tender puppy joints from getting sore as older babies?

Okay, tried to add the photos themselves, but they were all too large, so try this link here.  I hope it works!
