I have a 4 1/2 yr old and a 8 yr old and Phoebe just goes right for them as soon as they try to play with her they try to be firm with her but she aint buying it. they really want to pet her and love her but her nipping makes it hard I intervene and she stops she does'nt do it with me.  We have alot of kids in the neighborhood that come and want to see her how can I keep her undercontrol at this age, What should I do? She will soon be bigger than them I need to get this under control.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Phoebe has found her barker!!!
« on: August 08, 2007, 08:17:07 pm »
Well we had 1 quiet night then she decided she would let us know she did'nt like being in the crate.  I forget how many nights this will go on she is in our room with us I am hesitant to move her to the crate on the main level since I do want her to be with us.  Should I SHHHH her sternly or let her bark and whine?? I did get up and SHHH her once and it seem to help she went and laid down.  When she sleeps in the daytime should I crate her or let her sleep wherever she is.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Today is the day!!!!!!

We bring home our new puppy today. I feel like I'm bringing a baby home from the hospital.  It's been 9 years since I had a puppy to train. I expect to get very little sleep tonight we are going to crate her in our room tonight and home we can keep her somewhat quiet so she does'nt keep the boys up all night.  I will take pictures tonight and post them as soon as I can.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Puppy Food what's best for pyrs.
« on: August 01, 2007, 08:06:43 pm »
We are getting our pup on Monday and I was wondering what you all have fed your pups? Also I have heard to only feed them puppy food for the first 6mos then switch to adult.  The breeder feeds them purina puppychow which is not something I want to continue.
Thanks

We thank you all for your advise.  We have decided to go with a the puppy instead of a rescue at this time due to the fencing issue.  We will be picking her up on Mon. Aug. 6th and we are so excited!!  We as a family went to Petco and picked out new toys for "Phoebe" that is her name. We have two boys 41/2 and 8.  They especially the youngest really miss our MollyGirl, he cries daily for her and its been a month since she died.
I will post pics. when we get her.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Undergroung fencing
« on: July 26, 2007, 03:31:20 pm »
we are thinking of rescuing an young adult pyr. versus purchasing a puppy which we have put money down on.  I would love some feedback on what kind of succes people have had or have not had with underground fencing we currently have underground fencing which worked great with our Pyr mix who we lost suddenly to cancer a few weeks ago. :'(
The rescue groups are hesitant to adopt out to people with non visible fencing.

Thanks
