Medical Conditions & Diseases / Poor Barffy Titan :(
« on: February 12, 2009, 05:05:46 am »
I would like some thoughts or advice. We have a Mr. Bunny living in our back yard. This is new and recent!! We have recently experienced a "heat wave" and it has exposed a bazillion rabbit turds! Andrew and I have faithfully been outside every night after work picking the little monsters up. We both go outside when Titan is out so we can supervise the potential eating of these turds. However... Titan can be VERY sneaky!! He has eaten some of them. In the last 3 days each day he has thrown up 1 time about 8-10 hours after ingesting his food. The first day was about 2 cups yesterday was maybe 1/2 cup so I assumed he was getting better until this morning.... when about 4 cups came up.   :(  Poor thing.... I can’t think of anything else other than the rabbit turds that would make him sick. His poop is normal, he feels fine, temp is good, wants to eat and drinks plenty of water. Titan has a vet appointment today @ 2 to check him out....but just wondering if any one has any suggestions or thoughts.
Thanks in advance!!

WELL SAID!!  I could go further but I believe enough has been said….
I agree completely... I believe the incident with Zac and Boudreaux was an accident. I believe that with hard work from the whole family you guys can fix this. Stay positive and focused; you can and will get through this.  I wish you nothing but the best of luck and make sure you keep us updated on the progress. I am very happy with your decision. Give Zac and Boudreaux a big hug and kiss from us!!

Personal Experiance; We feed Titan 2 times a day. When he was younger 3 times a day untill he was about a year old. We measured the same amount of food at each meal and then it was seperated into 2 batches to ensure slow eating. He would gobble down the the 1st bowl and 5mins later we gave the 2nd bowl and he was more relaxed about eating it. And full at the end. They dont know when to stop; so if you make the feeding process a little longer you might find that he does not eat as much and bloat up like that. The other thing is to wet his food that sometimes helps the digestive process.
As for the amount of food it depends on what the condidtion of that the dog is in and the type of food you are feeding. High quility kibble you will need less. A kibble filled with "extras" and fillers you will need more.
Also as Tina mentioned; it aids in training if you feed on a schedual. I used it for potty training and for the alpha position as well. Potty training...he eats and drinks 5 mins later (if that) he was outside doing his duties we treat and reward and everything is successfull!
Good luck and just to add Hades is the cutest ball of fluff I have ever seen!!!  ;)

I believe now I NEED a Dane!! Those are too cute Julie!

I have Titan on Cosequin rigt now. A bit pricy but my God did I see a difference. Also on those days he plays a bit to hard with his Girlfriend I throw an extra one on his food and notice he is walking a bit more easily within a couple of hours. To me it almost works as an anti-imflamatory with out the side effects of long term use.I go through 1 bottle every 3 months.

Good luck I know we have had it since we started!!

Hahahha Thanks!

Does Titan have hip issues or do you have him on it as a preventative? Can it be used as a preventative or is that a waste? I don't think Gweck has hip issues but after a romp at the park he is definitely sore and grouchy.

Titan has mild HD in his right hip. After a long romp he swings his leg out more and does not lay on it; I can tell he might be tender. So We started with the cosequin as well as accupunture and chiro treatments. He is almost 100% but the winter seams to have him a little down and out the cold stiffs him up! As well he still has growth spurts so his hip bugs him during that time as well. But without the cosequin it looks like it really bothers him. Good Luck...let me know if you find it cheeper than 100 bucks a bottle!!  ;)
