Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Microchipping?
« on: December 05, 2007, 10:26:19 pm »
IMO there are no health reasons significant enough to stop a microchipping.  The benefits outweigh the possible problems like the chip hitting a nerve, causing a blood clot or the the radio waves from the chip.  When people tell me about the dangers of radio waves, I tell them I will make the dog a foil hat.  :)

LOLOL  I have plenty of tin foil!!!

Thank you so much everyone. I just want the best for Cody. I sure don't want to do something that is not good for her. But after reading your posts I think I will go ahead and chip her, too. I would feel better knowing that she would have that chance if the worst was to happen. And where I live, I'm concerned about theft. I will not let her out of my sight.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas everyone!  :)

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Microchipping?
« on: December 05, 2007, 03:42:38 pm »
Hello all,

I'm picking up my Doberman, Cody, this Sunday and taking her to the vet Monday morning. She will be one day shy of 10 weeks old. I was wondering if anybody knew of any heath reasons why I should not have her microchipped.

Thanks in advance,  :)

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Raw Hides
« on: December 02, 2007, 02:42:56 pm »
Hi Neicy,

I, too, am concerned about rawhide and (in my case) everything else she is about to put into her mouth. And I haven't even gotten her yet!!! I pick her up this coming Sunday. I'm running around trying to get things ready for her - especially in the chew toy area - and I think I'm being "clinically paranoid" about the whole thing. But I just can't help it. I want the best for her.

This is a different situation but I know someone who's dobe guide dog ate some wood chips about 4 weeks ago. They were able to get the wood chips out by surgery but she began to bleed internally again and passed away on the table during the second surgery for the bleeding. And from what I've heard so far, dobies will eat just about anything. So I want plenty of chew toys for her but I don't want the CHEW TOYS to hurt her either. I guess I need to take a trip to the vet today for a talk. Maybe he can "shrink" me into some sanity!

Let me know what you decide. I'll try to remember to come back here and let you know what my vet says.

Terri

BTW, the avitar is of Ratdog, my best friend who passed away 3 1/2 years ago. I still miss her alot. She was an exceptional dog (though she thought she was human - and actually so did I  ;D !!!)

Hi there. My heart goes out to Fumble and to you. I know how hard it is to see your "little one" in pain. I hope he gets to feeling better real soon.

Thank you, Jenn. That link will certainly come in handy. I was looking for some place on the site to explain that. And I just bought a digital camera. I have been thinking about it for a long time but now with Cody coming it is time to go ahead and do it.

Thanks again.

Hey everbody!

It's great to meet you! There are some pretty big paws represented on this forum!

The breeder sent me some pics last night. She is adorable! And fat! LOL Eats like a pig! She said that she has a real good personality and is already getting some of her potty habits down a little bit. I just look forward to getting her and really glad that she'll be with us for Christmas. I'll have to burn my credit card after the holidays!!! LOL

I'd been saving money for a new motorcycle. I told mom, "Well, there goes the motorcycle!" And don't regret it one bit.

Thanks again for the welcome. I look forward to getting to know you. And I will need help with the pics because I am quite challenged in that area as well.  :D

Take care all,
ratdog (Terri)

Hi Tina,

Thanks for the welcome. My name is Terri. Ratdog is the last sweetie I had, a Scottish Terrier. I love and miss her alot, as well as Tal, my cat.

Jack is adorable. How old is he and how long have you had him?

I'm naming the Dobe "Cody". I saw that name in a post earlier but I had chosen her name several months ago. I'll post some pics as soon as I can. She's 3 and 1/2 hours away from me so it will be another 2 weeks before I have any.

Thanks again for the welcome,
TC

I've been lurking here for a while and gleening info where possible. This forum seems like a good place to go when someone has a question.

I've been waiting for quite a bit of time to get a puppy - almost a year. I'm finally getting a Dobe pup in less than 2 weeks. She will be about 9&1/2 weeks old when I get her. I'm very excited and nervous at the same time. I've never had a big inside dog before and certainly not a Doberman. The only thing I'm nervous about is the potty training. But I hear that they learn quickly. I sooooo look forward to camping and hiking and going to the park with her. I just wanted to say HI to everyone and hope your Christmas is as great as mine!

Take care all,
ratdog
