Great Pyrenees Discussions / Re: Multiple dogs???
« on: January 07, 2008, 01:53:46 am »
I have always thought that it was better to have more than 1 dog as long as your first dog is well socialized and get along well with other dogs. I only have 1 dog at the moment 6.5 month saint bernard but I am seriously considering another big paw once she is a little older because she loves playing with other dogs and I think she would be much happier with a friend. Sorry I can't give you any expert advice; this is just my opinion and what I have noticed while owning dogs.

Great Dane Discussions / Re: In search of an older great Dane

Where in ohio does he live? My cousin lives in Pittsburgh and she loves to play match maker with dogs. I am sure that she would help look around that area for an older dane. She would probably even go visit it to make sure that the dane would be good with your uncle. Even if he doesn't live near pittsburgh part of ohio I am sure she would help try to make some sort of travel arrangements. Let me know. Hope you find the perfect match for you uncle.

This is such a cool idea. I am going to give it a try. I don't think kalli is getting long enough walks due to the fact that I start to freeze halfway through them but maybe if I have goal time I can do it. Hope a lot of other people decide to give it a shot!

haha yes i hear you on this one and there is absolutely nothing wrong with having an animal house.

here we go:
- I know my house smells like dog cause when my parents visit they always tell me
- When you walk in the door first thing you see is the dog crate
- There are dog/cat toys all over the floor of our house
-we have basket just filled with dog toys
- cat dishes and dog dishes on the kitchen floor
- dog food scattered all over the place
- drool/water all over the kitchen floor
- litter boxes
- a cat toy suctioned to the window
- our back door is all scratched from kalli telling us she is ready to come in
- we have a pantry filled with stuff just for our animals
- all the shoes are kept in a closet cause kalli is a chewer

good times :)

Kalli is doing that too. I used to feed her 3 times a day a total of 9 cups. Now I put food down in the morning and it takes her the whole day to eat what is in there. I am a little concerned about it but we go to the vet next week so I will discuss it with her then.

Oh I know a family like that. They go through dogs like toliet paper. Its really horrible. Their last purchase was 2 labordoodles(sp?) and they then decided that they just couldn't handle two dogs so they were going to take it to the pound fortunately my cousin found out and took the her to my aunt and uncle and now sarah has nice home with 113 acres of land to roam on. But seriously they couldn't even keep 1 dog for more than a few months at a time what made them think that two dogs was good idea?!?!?!

Thanks everyone! We will try leashing and being repetitive about the "come" command. We will also try to figure out somewhere else for her to go if we feel she needs punishment. This has all been very helpful and hopefully kalli and I will finally learn how to get this done. Once again many thanks! I will keep you updated on how things are going!

Kalli is making want to pull my hair out today! Everytime I have let her outside she won't come back in on her own. I have to go out and chase her around the yard 3 times already today!!! The one time I left her out there while I went to interview because she was going to make me late... she was out there for 2 hours in the cold and snow. When I got home I couldn't get her to go back outside I literally had to drag her and then once she was out I could get her to come back in. So frustrating.

Anyways I have question. When I finally did get her back in the house I put her in crate as punishment. I have been told that you shouldn't use her crate for punishment because that is where she sleeps and where we put her when we leave her at the house alone. Does anyone else use their crates as a sleeping place and for punishment? I don't want he to think that she is bad when I put her in there at night or when we go out. Any feedback you have would be great.

Ok so I need help cause Kalli is driving my fiance and me crazy! Kalli normally is let out or her crate when my fiance gets up to go to work, this is around 7 or 7:30, well starting last week she has been whining to get out earlier and earlier each day. It started at like 6:30 and then the next day it was 6 and so on well today it was 4:15. I have no idea why she is doing it she had been perfectly fine for the past month being let out when he got up for work and then suddenly she decided that she wasn't ok with that and each morning she wants out earlier. We try to just ignore and hope she goes back to sleep but this morning she whined for over an hour! Please help not only do I feel horrible for when she whines she is seriously killing my sleep time.

She has more energy than I know how to deal with lol. Plus she doesn't like to think she is missing something. So she is awake most of the time that we are home and awake.

nothing wrong with a couple drinks to celebrate the new year lol. yes setting up a play date sometime would be great. I am new to this area of the state (i am originally from altoona, pa)  and I don't know anyone at all so it,except for my fiance, kinda sucks. not that he isn't good company but he just doesn't cut it all the time lol.  I am willing to travel to have some social time for me and the puppers lol.
