We have one as well.  Jadis is wild about and Vander could care less.  Enjoyed the video - reminds me of Jadis bouncing around after it.  She also chases the lights from the crystals we have inour windows on sunny days - what a goofy girl!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: WOAH EARTHQUAKE!

FIrst of all - We hope all goes well with the baby!  It would have made a great story!

I am in AK where we shake, rattle and roll all the time - The dogs are great indicators of a quake on the way - dependning on the magnitude they get real weird about 5 seconds b4 we start shaking - one night my husky bounced up on the bed and we shook really hard. Hopefully the one you experienced was just a friek of nature - It took a bit of getting used to up here  - We shake a lot during the spring when the ground is going through that freeze and thaw cycle - so we are gearing up for the shake season now

There is a great website for reproting your quake - I think it is something like www.aeic.com or something.  You can google alaska earthquake information center and it will find it.  From there you can link to you area and then report it.  We love hearing about how the lower forty-eight shakes!

Again - Hope all goes well for you!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Is it the HIPS or Growing Pains??
« on: April 17, 2008, 02:21:03 am »
Both my mals have had growing pains on and off.  I talked with the breeder and hey said it was common for the parents as well during growth spurts. It was worse and more noticeable when they were younger.  Now it just seems like every so often they may seem a little stiff - especially after a hard play. (we are just about a year old now) We tried the rimadyl in the beginning but opted to just slow them down during the spurt.  The meds gave their stomachs a hard time and the trade off wasn't worth it for either of them.  It has gotten a lot better as they have slowed in their growth - finally!

Good Luck

Hats off to all of you - we can't even begin to compete with you!  Our house is definitely not as "interesting" as all of yours!

I wish I knew more about the brand but I don't.  We are using Science Diet on the Vet's rec. and I would really like to switch to something else, but I keep reading all different pros and cons on all the brands out there - and then throw in that the kiddos we have are large breeds and that just makes it all the more confusing - keep me posted - that was one of the brands I considered - but becuase my guys were still pups it wasn't recommended.  I would love to read some responses to your post as well.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I know how you feel.  Whenever we have a bad day at school (I am a teacher) my nine year old and I come home and roll around the floor with the dogs.  Their unconditional love and sloppy kisses just seem to make everything ok.  Hope your tomorrow is a happy one!

We are right there with you!  We had 6 inches throughout this week - right after a 2 month break and temperatures in the 50s.  We are back to the freezing mark (which is fine with me) but the snow melts, makes lovely mud baths in the yard parts that aren't graveled, and then re-freezes. We are still hearing the "snow" word for this week - just a few inches - as well.  I personally love the snow - its the muddy melt that follows with out LONG spring days.

Good Luck to you - based on our weather pattern that seems to cross the lower 48 - you may be in for one more shot of cold.  I loive 40 miles North Of Anchorage, AK and we saw single digits last night.  It seems to travel down from us - across Canada and eventually back east.  Hope this one falls apart first!

Kudos to you for keeping your calm.  I definitely would have had a few choice words for the jerk.   Thank goodness our vet is an appointment type of guy! (Even in emergencies!)

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: Drywall Digger!!
« on: April 10, 2008, 11:01:44 pm »
We had drywall issues this summer with my Vander.  A hole, more of a dent developed near where a gate was (we had too much pressure holding the gate in place).  Once there was a small opening Vander would lick at it and it grew.  We temporarily covered it, but he went after it so I finally made the time to fill it, re-texture it and then paint it.  Once it looked like the rest of the wall we no longer had any trouble with it.  It was like he only bothered with it when it looked different.  Good Luck with Decker!

Hope you have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY day!

We have malamutes and huskies so I am useless when it comes to breed - but whatever he is he is absolutely HANDSOME!  Enjoy him!
