My heart just breaks for this puppy and you too ... I think that the suggestions given are wonderful ... contact as many agencies as you can and become enough of a nusance that they eventually do something to get you off their backs!!!  In the meantime, you have my prayers (and Ozzy's too) ... very sad ... everyone hug your furbabies extra tight tonight knowing that you're providing safe, loving homes ... how lucky our puppies are!!!

OMG, what is that little guy?  Is it a dog?  Is it a potbellied pig?  My son thinks it might be a POG?  Whatever it is, it is the cutest thing I've ever seen ... What is his/her name???

I love big dogs because they don't sell little frilly outfits for them at the store!!!

Don't get me wrong, I have a nine pound rat terrier, who DOESN'T wear clothing, phew ... and so I do love her.

I do apologize to anyone out there who likes to dress their little pets, it's just not my thing!

Although a nice bandana is cool on a big dog!

(At Petco this weekend when a small chiuaua growled at Ozzy, the chiuaua's owner actually said, "Oh stop that or mommy will not buy you a new sweater!" ... tee hee)

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Rash - Help!!!
« on: May 20, 2008, 11:39:20 am »
Thanks for the info on pano, the funny thing is, my first instinct was, "I wonder if it's growing pains", only from raising two teenage boys!  I will definitely bring this up with the vet, we're going in on Friday morning for evaluation/Xrays, etc.

Ozzy is still limping on and off (mostly off, phew) but is definitely using his leg more during playtime.  I think the rash was only noticed as I was inspecting the leg with a fine tooth comb, oatmeal shampoo seems to have helped the rash immensly and he is not licking the area at all!

Just love this big old bear and hate to see the little limp!!!

Thanks and Welcome!!!  Your bubs are adorable!!!  I will definitely have the vet check for any possibility!  The rash seems no different now than it did on Friday ... we did an Oatmeal bath on Saturday night (followed by a complete bathroom cleaning) which was too cute, at first Ozzy had NO idea what a bath was, but within a moment or two he was totally comfortable and laying down in the water!  His limping was almost gone on Saturday, but back again on Sunday ... so the vet trip is definitely still a go.  Of course, he's doing all his other puppy things so I know he's gonna be okay!!!

I think this is why Petco does so well in our area, we go EVERY Saturday ... not because we need anything but because there is such a great mix of people, dogs and especially people who love dogs!  Ozzy thinks it's great fun and that's my plan ... plus I always buy him stuff ... tee hee!!!

I have two other dogs who we never socialized ... I understand the importance of it now and will make sure Ozzy gets to know ALL KINDS OF circumstances, people, places and fun things!!!

P.S.  Your St. B is ADORABLE!!!

Mixed Breed Discussion / Ozzy's trip to Petco
« on: May 17, 2008, 11:08:19 am »
Ozzy had his regular trip to Petco (to meet other people/dogs) today.  He got a new collar, some oatmeal/aloe shampoo and a nail trim.  It was so funny to see his reaction (or non reaction) to the other dogs ... he's so friendly and could care less what their attitude is ... for instance this itty bitty chiuaua snarled and growled and totally freaked out and Ozzy was looking at him like, "Ha ... you have NO idea how my rat terrier terrorizes me at home, is that all you got???"  We met the trainers GSD, gorgeous police dog looks and a definite walking advertisement for training perfection ... he layed down on command so Ozzy could check him out, way cool.

But the highlight of the day was seeing the LARGEST dog I've ever seen in my life!!!  (You know that photo of the dog walking with the two people and the horse, that looks digitally altered???)  This dog looked like THAT dog and ALMOST as big ... hhhmmmpppphhhh ... I don't even WANNA see the food bill on that guy ... but he was a big old marshmallow (Thank Goodness!!!).

Ozzy is now snoozing after a long day of 'puppy work', tee hee

Thanks everyone!!!  Yes, the first thing I did was take away the acrylic fur blanket that we had on the bottom of his crate!  I'm going to Petco today for a good skin shampoo for him and something for his crate made with natural fibers.  The rash is small, about the size of the heel of my hand, it's bumpy, but not red.  Ozzy isn't really paying much attention to it (no licking, etc.) and has no problem when I touch it.  He's limping MUCH less this morning (I probable woulnd't even notice a limp if I was scrutinizing his every step!!!  Not sure if the limping/rash are related.  My husband thinks he landed wrong hopping off our bed yesterday morning and that may be causing the limping ... the rash may be something I just noticed while examining the leg carefully.  Anyway, I'll try the shampoo, keep a close eye on this baby all weekend and see the vet on Tuesday if it's not totally cleared up ... But this morning he's definitely his BOUNCY PUPPY self, phew ...

THANKS!!!

no, I posted to the thread by mistake, so I reposted it to the general board ... but thanks for your response ... I'm thinking about trying some benedryl tonight ... I have the puppy weight chart/dosage info.  I just feel so bad for the guy, he's not scratching like crazy (at least not when he's around me ...) but the limping makes me feel like it must be a painful rash.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Rash - Help!!!
« on: May 16, 2008, 03:55:37 pm »
I posted this to the wrong place, so I'm trying again ... my apologies ... I'm still kinda new ...

Okay, Ozzy has a very strang rash on the top inside of his hind leg ... he's even limping due to it, but otherwise seems his happy puppy self.  The vet suggested bathing him in a skin formula shampoo and having him come in to be seen on Tuesday afternoon!  Is there anything I can do to help relieve this rash for the poor guy?  He's also got a nasty scab under his chin that we've been watching for two days and putting bacitracian on.  I was wondering if he might have an alergic reaction to the fluffy bed blanket we put in his kennel (so that came out today) ... I welcome ALL advice ... poor puppy ...

Again, just to clarify, he's eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, and playing like nothing's wrong ...

It's not always our furry friends who bring us goodies ... my friends 1 year old was playing on the kitchen floor and suddenly started to choke.  My girlfriend assumed it was cat food, and when she scooped the offending object out of his mouth, she found he was gagging on a LIVE, BABY FROG!!!  ewwwww
