I know exactly how you feel and what you're going through.  We have two Pyrs, male and female, Noah and Jazzy.  Both turned a year in April.  They both do exactly what your pup is doing.  Get used to it.  If they feel like coming in, they'll come in right away.  If they don't, well..... you can just wait.  I avoid the aggrevation and wave a biscuit in front of their noses and that works every time.  Weak? I know, but it works and if it's pouring rain and you want them in the house before they're drenched, or it's late and you want to go to bed, this is the way we've done it and it seems, so far at least, that our Pyrs never turn down a cookie.  We just can't change their behavior with this particular issue.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Re: Corbyn- This is not such good news

How terribly sad this has happened to Corbyn.  That vet should be put out of practice along with his staff.  I'm sorry I can't help you out with the name of a good and mean attorney, but I am sending you and Corbyn good thoughts and prayers for his speedy recovery.  Pyr Pecks from Noah and Jazzy as well.  Give him a big kiss for us when you see him.

I just can't believe things like this happen.  It totally blows my mind that anyone could hurt a poor animal.  Oh, yes, don't pay the bill.  They'd wait forever before I'd pay it.

Congratulation s!  What a wonderful thrill.  A Pyr puppy is like none other.  Over the years I've had St. Bernards, Newfoundland, Old English Sheep Dog, Leonberger and now two Pyrs. Noah, our male, was very challenging as he thought I was his littermate and would chew on me all the time.  My arms and hands were a mess last summer.  I'm a softy and I guess I should have been firmer, but I don't know, somehow when you look into those eyes and that fluffy face, it's hard to do it.  But take it from me, I was wrong.  Make sure the puppy knows who's the Alpha dog around your home.  I think Noah is still trying to figure it out.  He knows my husband's the head honcho, but he's still not sure about me.  Our female is a rescue and I haven't had a problem with her as she was very timid and had been abused by the previous owner.  She's so much better now and has settled in to being a typical Pyr.  When we first got her, I was surprised because people had told me they never respond to "come".  Well, Jazzy came to me every time I called her in.  It didn't last long.  Once she was comfortable, I'd go to call her and Noah in the house, they'd just look at me, look at each other, and then turn around and walk away from me like I wasn't even there.  She's VERY comfortable now, wouldn't you say?

Good luck with your new baby and be sure to let the baby know who's boss.  That's very important.

Hi Tobysmom:

I mentioned to another person who responded to my plight that when using the squirt bottle, Noah thought it was a game and he loved it.  I sure wish it had worked for me.  The trainer told me to try Listerine (gold colored one only) and that didn't work either.  It slowed him down a bit, but he still thought it was a fun game.

Thanks so much for your advice.  It is most appreciated.  By the way, Toby is quite a handsome boy!  Wow, aren't Pyrs just beautiful????

Hi:

Thanks so much for your reply.  I'll try out the can with coins in it like your sister did.

It sounds as though you've lost your Pyr.  I'm so very sorry to hear this.  When you lose a pet, they seem to take a bit of your heart with them and it's so hard.  I hope you have found peace and found memories now without the heart ache.

I've attached a picture of my beauties.

Carolyn:

I forgot to mention what a lovely Pyr Marley is.  You must be thrilled.  This is the first time for Great Pyrenees and we're really enjoying Noah and Jazzy.  They're very entertaining!

Hi Carolyn:

Thanks so much for your response.  Before I go any further, I have to tell you I was born and raised (until the age of 8) in London, Ontario.  We moved to the States but have so many relatives there that we're still back and forth a great deal.

I'm so pleased that you can relate to my problem.  I do want them to bark when there's something out there out of the ordinary, but the leaves, wind, kids riding on the street, phone, etc., is a bit much.  I will try the Citronella collar unscented.  Would I get that at any pet food store?  I've never looked for one before.

Thanks again for your help!

Hi Patrick:

Thank you for your response.  I have tried the squirt bottle.  Our breeder said Pyrs are not crazy about water and to give a squirt bottle a try.  Noah LOVED it and thought I wanted to play a game.  I will, however, look into the Citronella Bark Collar.  Thanks again.

Thank you so much for your advice.  I will certainly look into it and give it a try.

Love your St. Bernard.  Lovely dog.  I had two of them when I was in my early 20s - oh, so many years ago.  I loved them.  Wonderful, wonderful dog!

I can't begin to tell you how very sorry I am to hear of your loss of Cosmos.  What a shame!  I've lost dogs over the years and it never gets any easier.  Your heart just breaks.  I hope that soon, when you think of Cosmos, your tears will turn to smiles remembering all the joy he brought you.  He was a handsome boy!

We have two Great Pyrs. a year old last April, Noah and Jasmine (Jazzy for short).  We are having a terrible time with their barking.  Now I understand that all dogs bark and Pyrs are notorious for barking, but I think our two take it to the extreme.

I work out of my home - I'm a court reporter - and when our home phone or office phone rings, both Jazzy and Noah go absolutely nuts barking.  I have to answer my business line even though they're barking because I can't miss the call.

They also bark at a bird chirping, school bus, cars with a big engine, kids walking by, adults walking dogs, squirrels, even a leaf falling!

We need help before we lose our minds.  I would appreciate your input.  I know there's a wealth of information out there that I can tap into, and I'm desparate.  Please HELP!!

Hi:  I'm new to your group and I want to thank you for the wonderful pictures you've posted of the GP Specialty.  I was at the show with our two Pyrs, Noah and Jazzy.  We weren't there to show our dogs, but we were invited to have Jasmine participate in the "Rescue Parade" which was so very cute!  It was wonderful to see so many magnificent Pyrs together at one time.  Totally thrilling.  Your Pyrs are absolutely gorgeous!  Thanks for sharing!!  Attached is photo of Noah and Jazzy.

Hi:  I'm new to the site and in my exploration, I saw your beautiful pictures of Miles.  He is absolutely magnificent!  He's going to be quite a "moose" when he grows up.  Big tootsies!  We own two Pyrs that turned a year on April 7th of this year.  Our male, Noah, we got from a Breeder in Northern Wisconsin and our female, Jasmine (we call her Jazzy) is a rescue out of Indianapolis.  I'll attach a picture so that you can be meet our two.

A very late Happy Birthday to Miles.  He's truly a beauty!

I'm new to your group and I have two Great Pyrs a year old in April.  Your fur babies are just adorable.  They look wonderful.  We are first-time owners of Pyrs., and I have to tell you that our two, Noah and Jazzy, keep us laughing every day without fail!  They are certainly an entertaining breed of dog!  Yours look the same.
