Good news!  It's scary how quickly they become dehydrated...I'm glad Rosco's feeling better

Romeo...I hope he lives up to his name, he is quite handsome.  I agree with giving him his own run, maybe when he starts aging.  I'd hate to see a tragic ending with him or any other animal/person.  Keep us posted on his behavior, I know I'm quite curious.

Congratulation s!  & Happy Birthday!

I know that wild-eyed look!  It's hard to shake them out of it...I really hope you find something for her.  It breaks my heart to see them that upset.

I get him away from the other animals ASAP & would keep him away from any children.  I'd get him into obedience soon & get an evaluation of his temperament.  Only then can you truly offer him an appropriate job around the farm.

I'm sure he's a beautiful animal, but anything bred w/ wolf deserves the respect & consideration of both breeds involved.

Collars, crates, & other cool things / Re: Cute tags
« on: June 23, 2008, 11:34:53 am »
I like the use of collar tags, but we use rolled leather collars on our pyrs due to the long hair.

I found a young beagle/basset wandering on the side of the road one stormy night last year...I was about 6 miles from home.  I picked him up & brought him home w/ me (after waiting in a nearby parking lot for nearly an hour w/ hopes someone was looking for him.  When I got home, I realized his nametag was riveted to his collar (very nice) & called the number on it.  The guy answered & I told him I found the pup, he asked "how many did you find?"...at that moment I wish I had never made the call  >:(

Apparently he had been hunting with two of his dogs & they both took off & he couldn't find either...he was at least 10 miles away in the opposite direction when I had called.

Has anyone else done this? Instead of my dogs' names on the tags, I have printed, 'Reward4Return'. I don't really care if whoever finds my dog knows what to call him, or her, :) but I do care that they understand they will be rewarded for getting my dog back to me. I also have the microchip ID tag on their collars. I have heard some say that might give a dog thief the idea to enter the database and change the owner records. My feeling is; if the dog is lost one of the first notified is the chip company. Any attempts to change info at that point would, I'm sure, be flagged. Plus, you could get a direct link to the thief. Debates?

Microchipping is great & I don't believe it would be bad to advertise that the dog has been chipped. With all the security questions out there, I don't think it can be done easily & I don't think any sophisticated dog thieve ring will be after my dogs anywho.  But I can understand the concern.

Do you keep her next to you when she gets upset?  Does she seem to calm down any when she's close to you?  If Kate is across the room she'll have fits, but if I bring her into the chair w/ me or on the bed (I know some don't allow them on the furniture) where I can reach her, she'll settle down...it just takes some talking & petting, no longer than 10 minutes.  I don't know if you read my post in your last thread...We went through it again last night.  She slept through the storm before bed because I think she wore herself out during the afternoon storm (I wasn't home at the time).
