The pyr I had as a pup gained about 10# a month until he was mature.  She will definitely be bigger than most pyrs!

Her weight gain will slow in the next six months...just be aware of it & adjust her food accordingly, no biggie, she needs her nutrition.  We stop in at the vets office once every couple months just to keep an eye on things & use their scales.

Do you think her coat will cord being a lab mix?

Kate was (when we got her @ 2 yrs) & is back to about 87#, which is a good weight for her...Franklin was only 90# & lanky when we got him.  He's now up to 104# & a good weight for him.  He's tall & I can still feel his hip bones, but not nearly like they were.  Frank runs around the yard like a racehorse & I know that will slow in a couple years & his food will be adjusted accordingly.  He gets two cups twice a day & it seems to be doing good, I don't want to see more than 4 more pounds on him.  We went through Katie gaining weight & saw the stress it put on her.  For the last year she's been on Glucosamine/Condroitin/MSM...doubled the dose for the first three months, it has made a world of difference in the way she feels.  Even though Frank is only 2-1/2 to 3 years he will be on it soon if for nothing else but a preventative & to help keep him feeling good.

I get this at vitacost.com, good prices for the amount of tabs in a bottle & it works great.

Hi there... Welcome from another Ohio big dog owner.  I'm Lora and have two saints and 4 labs.  We are near Columbus.

quite a family you've got there!  Are they all in the house?

Anyway she seems to have stopped shedding her puppy coat and is only half way finished. I don't know if I should help it along and have her groomed or not. My husband and I are kinda curious what it will do on its own.

Funny she's changing colors. I've known pyrs colors to fade, but not completely change.  A weekly brushing/combing does wonders for every dog. Being a large dog, weekly brushings will make quick work of the task instead of allowing it to build up & taking half a day to groom.  She's a single-coated dog isn't she?  If so, the brushing should be easy & help pull the fine puppy hair out...I'd suggest a groomer if she's becoming matted, but it's not neccessary.  Definitely comb her out before you bathe her.  Any fine hair underneath will tighten up like wool when it dries.

a shedding comb with varied pins works great to loosen & remove the shedding hair...I use a finer one on my parents basset hound, works great!

use a decent pin brush to finish & remove the loose hair on top...it finishes the pyrs nicely

I think I will try the broomstick deal w/ him this weekend, just to see how his reaction will be.  I know he's really going to have to push on the shafts to turn the wagon.  He's got alot of energy, but doesn't seem like a nervous dog.

I hope Miss Lily picks right back up where she left off!  Does she enjoy her harness, knowing she'll be hooked to the cart?

Bringing up an old thread...

is Lily still carting?  She looks pretty happy doing so, can't tell if she has issues.

I received a harness for Franklin in the mail a couple days ago from Wilczek's & I just got notification that my wagon kit is shipping from Northern Tool (just have to build the box/deck for it & have shafts made by Wilczek's).  My 3-1/2 yr old nephew is excited, he said he wants to put dirt in it  ;)

I put the harness on Frank & he took to it pretty well.  I used the traces as a lead & he went in circles until he figured I wasn't going to lead him by the collar, heh.  He then "pulled" me by the traces, gingerly, thank goodness & I gave him commands as we strolled through the yard, hoping he'll catch on that way.  I'm only doing this for recreation, pet walks, etc. with my brother's kids, no competition... I don't know how that would work anyway given he's not registered.

I'd like to hear more & how Lily's coming along...I know Katie is a bundle of nerves & wouldn't do great right off the bat (she's getting older now anyway).  I'd love to build a princess carriage & have him pull her around, lol

Komondors are beautiful, I can imagine what a great dog she'll be mixed w/ lab.  Stick around here, I'm sure we'd all like to see her grow up!

I'm in the Youngstown/Warren area, northeast.

As far as LGD, do you mean an actual working LGD or just the type of dog & what you can expect as an owner from them?

Thanks for the welcome!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

as a pyr owner, how much do you think you consume annually?  if it's not in my eyes, it's in my mouth...I don't even want to discuss clothing  ;D

My friends are nature freaks & insist that we leave the hair in the yard for the birds...I dont think they understand quite how much is available for the birds, lol

I think the birds are scared of the large white masses on the ground...

Thanks everyone!

I'd love to go out to Santa Barbara next year...unless I hit the lotto, I doubt it's going to happen :( :D.

I met alot of people, but I'm terrible with names...I hope to get to know more people in the future.  I'm just starting to really get involved w/ things.  I did a little design for a t-shirt to benefit the rescue, but I'm not sure if I can advertise it on here.

I just bought Franklin a harness from Wilczek's & I'm building him a wagon...give him a little something to do & my niece & nephew will love it.
