It was a rough childhood for Loki.  At first we thought the sores were bite marks from his father.  But they kept appearing.  Our vet said it was only the 2nd case of hair folical cysts he had seen in over 30 years.  I was tempted to attach a pic of him after surgery, but it would really break your heart.  Bright pink stitches from ear to ear.    Was not a happy puppy though!

When Loki was a puppy, he was diagnoised with hair folical cysts.  It causes the hair to grow under the skin as well as on top.  There was only one option, massive scalp surgery at the age of 5 months.  The vet had to remove his entire scalp and now the hair from the back of his head is on top, giving the appearance of a lion.  He is 34" from neck to the base of his tail, and 32" from the ground to the top of his shoulder.  He weighs 118lb and is very fit.
He is Roxy's overly protective brother.

Roxy completed her 2nd daytrip to the Sandia Mountains with her 2 daytripper brothers.  I've included a pic of Loki our 4 yr old Golden.  He loves to hang out on top of picnic tables

Cindy ( the brindle pack ) is right on the money with her numbers and info.  I had googled a sight that said exactly the same thing.

Belgian Malinois Discussions & Pictures / Malinois Advice Needed
« on: July 12, 2008, 05:43:11 pm »
Our 4 month old Malinois "roxy" has taken over everything elevated inside or outside. First the hay trailer, then the coffee table, now the recliner.  If it gets her up in the air, she climbs it.  Has anyone experienced this before with this breed?  Is this a sign of "higher" things to come?

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Feeding habits driving me nuts!

We've had a similar problem with Roxy.  She would not eat in the morning, but sneak out later in the afternoon and get into her siblings outside chow.  She over ate so bad one Sunday night we had to make a run to the Pet ER.  $225.00 tummy ache is what it turned out to be.  Our vet suggested we feed her 1/3 of her daily rations morning, noon, and evening.  The first couple days she left her breakfast uneaten, so we picked it up.  Then she realized that lunch and dinner wasn't going to cut it.  Now she eats what is offered to her.  You'll work it out!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Warning about Sergeant's Gold

Just for the sake of discussion, you have chosen to speak on behalf of this product.  We read the directions, we applied them per the directions, and yes we read the warning.  The warning in a nut shell says "with ALL pesticides there is a risk of an allergic reaction.  If reaction occurs bath pet with mild soap and rinse with plenty of water."  Not a whole lot of specific details.  Secondly, we have used another named brand for years without incident.  The great thing about message boards is I can share my experiences with others. If it happened to us, it could happen to others.  I appreciate all your suggestions.
