Hi all,
We had a tumor removed on our 10 year old cat about a week ago. He's always been one to throw up once or twice a week due to hairballs, but now if throwing up many times a day. It's actually most liquid, not food, and he is still eating. The vet says it's not due to his surgery and they really are giving no other advice. He is still on the same food (some cheap brand I think...this is actually my moms cat). Do I need to switch him to a higher quality cat food? Could this be the cause? Does anyone else know what might be causing it? We're quite worried.
We'll get the test results for the tumor back soon, but the vet wasn't worried.

Hi All!
I had asked questions a while back about a Newf I was getting, well, it fell through as the breeder decided to keep him. Anyhow, in the meantime I have been dog sitting for a Great Dane, at a co-workers home, and I've fallen in love. My husband brought home a Yorkie puppy about 2 weeks ago, someone at work found the little guy and my hubby liked him. Anyway, to make a long story short, would a Great Dane (or a Newf puppy), be ok with a 8 lb. Yorkie, or will they play too rough? I know how big Newfs are at only 12 weeks (the boy we want is 28 lbs at 12 weeks), and I also know how hard they play, and the Yorkie (Charger) loves to play too. Does anyone have experience with big dogs and little dogs that are both young (Charge appears to be about 7-9 months old)? I wouldn't want the Yorkie to get hurt (although I love the big dogs, and want one madly).

Or, we're in MN, does anyone know of rescue groups we could look into, that would maybe have adult dogs that would be more gentle?

Thanks!

Beautiful boy! I have a question for you--
Did you have to get Toby certified to go to the nursing home, or are you just able to take him?

Hi all! I posted a question about asking if a Newf could comfortably live in an apartment, and I got a response that was overwhelmingly in favor of getting the Newf. Well, I have one picked out from a breeder (I have been researching this buy for quite some time), but just recently was told about a 10 week old Great Pyr pup in town who is in need of a good home.

He was found by the people who have him, and they are trying to find him a forever home. So, no idea if his parents had hip, eye, etc. probs or any of that. He is definatly all Pyr though. Are Pyr's a lot different in terms of tempermant than the Newfs? I have not done a lot of Pyr research, but am also just totally sold on having a big breed dog.

If I get the Pyr I can not have the Newf (which is fine, this guy needs a home, and I think Pyr's are BEAUTIFUL). Can anyone add some insight on what owning a Pyr would be like? I do have a small dog, so I need a breed that would get along well with my little girl.
Thanks everyone!

Hey all-
I got such good feedback on my other question I have one more--how do you read the health certifications? The parents of the pup I want have been hip, elbow, and heart checked. How do I know whats "good" they got "good" on some things "normal" "clear" etc., how do I know whats the best to go with, and how do I know that I'm looking at legit results?
New to the world of big doggies, so I have some learning to do.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I feel so much better getting my Newf boy knowing that some of you have these giants (or similar big guys) in houses/aparments about the size of mine. I am a very dedicated dog owner and have wanted a Newf for a while. Thanks all! I'll post pics and info once I pick him up!

Newfoundland Discussions / Newfoundland In an Apartment?
« on: July 31, 2008, 09:54:52 am »
Hey everyone. I have been a lurker on this board for a few months. I have been on the search for a Newfoundland puppy and found one I love, however, my job situation has changed and I am now going to be living in an apartment. It is dog friendly, and they would let me have the pup. There is a park near by to exercise the dog and a large yard, although unfenced, behind my apartment (its actually a town house, so i'm not in a building but its 1100 sq ft). I also live in SD/MN so there are SO many lakes we visit often. Anyway, I'm dedicated to making sure the dog gets out A LOT for exercise (winter might be a tad less due to freezing weather) but, can a Newfoundland live in an apartment? I will only be there for 1.5 years, and on weekends do go to my parents home which is very large and has a nice big fenced in backyard. The pupyy will also only be alone for 2 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon 3 days a week. Any thoughts? I had it all planned, have fallen in love with the pupppy, and then this happened!
Thank you!
