FAQs about puppies / Re: Our new Berner!
« on: November 11, 2008, 11:54:48 am »
Hello and Welcome!! :)

Congrats on your new puppy. Your Bernese Mountain Dog is simply adorable! I love the Bernese breed. They are such a sweet breed and so beautiful. And i Absolutely love the name "Turbo". :) I have 2 dogs. I have a American Akita named "Porscha" she is going to be 10 months old on the 14th of this month and i have a Black Lab mix named "Mercedes" she is 3 years old. My dogs are named after cars because i love cars so much. :)

About Training the Bernese breed:::

With this breed you need patience and consistent in training. Bernese need time to think things through. They do not respond well to harsh treatment, however Berners are very willing and eager to please their master. Bernese love to be encouraged with praise and treats. They can be Stubborn at times. Like the breed i have the American Akita they are a stubborn breed as well but they learn things fast. And thats great that you are going to get Turbo into Puppy School that will help him out a lot! Now with the Kennel its only been three days so patience is key. When you put him in the kennel and he starts to whine and cry just ignore him it will be tuff probably for the first week or so when you wont get much sleep. Welcome to puppies. lol!  But with ignoring him He will get used to being in his kennel and sooner or later he will stop crying and whining. But yes the Puppy School is going to be perfect for Turbo he will learn lots of stuff and become a very obedient Bernese puppy.

Good Luck and keep us updated on how he does when he starts Puppy School. :)
Cant wait to see more pictures of "Turbo"

Discussions & Information on Grooming / Re: Pedi Paws
« on: November 08, 2008, 06:21:15 pm »
Thats Great. :)
And Grace should get used to the noise of the "Pedi Paw" my dad bought one well the one you buy off TV the "Peticure" but hey they are the same. :) But anyways his Rottweiler do not like it at all when he got it she faught with him and used to take off running. And then about a month went by and then she was used to it. It does not bother her now. :)
How do you like the overall Product? I was thinking about getting one but i am not sure yet. I was just thinking about getting a "Dremel nail Tool" the Cordless Pet Nail Grooming Rotary Tool. But i dont know which one would work better.? Anyone know which one would do better?

Well Good Luck with Grace...She is so pretty i might add. I love Rottweilers i grew up with two they were fantastic dogs. We got our first rottweiler when i was 2 years old :) She was great! :)
But now that i am 18 i have my own 2 dogs. A American Akita as you can tell and a Black Lab mix. :) As you can tell. :)
But i have always had a soft spot for Rottweilers.

But the American Akita is my breed! :)

My dad has loved Rottweilers for many years. He actually got a tatto of a Rottweiler on his arm to show that he loves the breed so much. The tatto is a "Headshot" of a Rottweiler. No body or anything just the head of the Rottweiler. :)

But Keep us Updated on Grace's progress with the "Pedi Paw". :)
Good Luck! :)

FAQs about puppies / Re: Another new swissy mom

*WELCOME*

Your "Greater Swiss Mountain Dog" is adorable!! :)
And about house training a Swiss puppy they can take a long time to house train. It is not at all uncommon for it to take until the puppy is 7-9 months old before being really house trained. Most swiss puppies can be crate trained by 3-5 months and this will help in the overall process of house training. I have a American Akita and with crate training she was house trained in one week she was only 8 weeks old! :) But Swissies take a very long time to physically and mentally mature and as a result they can take longer to house train. But crate training is a good thing with this breed. :)

I hope this helps!! :)
And Welcome again to the BP!! :)

Discussions & Information on Grooming / Re: Bad Hair Days
« on: November 05, 2008, 12:48:35 pm »
Dog Breeds that have dense double coat like the Pyrenees’ and such, i have a American Akiata, And when brushing these breeds here are some tools you’ll need to use.

The following tools are really good for dense double coat breeds::

1. Slicker brush: A square, flat brush with needlelike bent pins sticking out from a rubber head. Use this brush first, going gently with the grain of the coat to remove dead hair.

2. Comb: After brushing with the slicker, use the comb to remove hair that was left behind. Use a comb that has both fine and coarse teeth.

3. Rake: This comb is great for cutting down on shedding because its rubber nubs pull dead hair readily out of the coat. It also can be used to loosen any mats that may have developed in the undercoat.

4. Shedding blade: A loop of saw-toothed metal extending from a brush handle, the shedding blade is good for removing debris and dead hair from the coat. Use this tool after the slicker and comb but only when your Pyrenees’ shedding is at its worst.

Good Luck and i Hope this Helps!! :)

WOW....

I really did not expect for everyone to be so rude and Practically yelling at me. I was just wanting everyones opinion on the dog food. NOW i am double thinking if i made a HUGE mistake ever joining this forum! I was not expecting everyone to yell at me. I just wanted opinions on the FOOD not about how i am asking it. I just wanted to share on what other people i know have have been feeding and is the food any good.? Thats why i join here to talk to NICE dog owners and find out info on dog foods. Well instead on me feeding Diamond dog foods what does everyone think about "Solid Gold Barking at the Moon" or "Authority Harvest Baked Chicken Dog Food or Nature's Recipe Dog Food  ? and dont yell at me if you think it is awful food. Just tell me what you know about it and is it good. Dont yell at me saying i am a bad dog owner for even thinking of that food. I not a Expert thats why i join here to learn more about dog foods and other stuff. So please dont be rude.
And i want to thank everyone how was being nice.

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Info about Dog Food...............

Julie.....

I have talked to so many Dog Show people and Many Breeders that swear by "Purina" dog foods......
And their dogs look amazing!!! I have talked to a breeder and show person about Diamond dog foods and she has been using it for 10 years and her dogs do great on it and they look stunning! I have tried "Candiea All Life Stages"......That did not work out at all. So i was asking about Premium Edge Chicken, Rice & Vegetables and Diamond Chicken and rice dog foods, because it is at my local feed store and many Akita people have told be chicken and rice is best for Akitas. So thats what i wanted to switch to. Many breeders and Akita show people say they swear by "Purina" dog foods and they were telling me to switch to Pro Plan Chicken & Rice Dog Food thats what they feed. And their dogs look Amazing!

I just wanted to see what everyone thinks about Pro Plan Chicken & Rice, Premium Edge Chicken, Rice & Vegetables or Diamond Chicken and rice or even "Exclusive" Chicken & Rice Formula....... .Geezzz

Thanks "Guardian Angel's White lightning" :)
And yes "Diamond" has had many recalls in the past. But they have improved their food since then....not much but they have improved it. So i was thinking about this food since they have made new changes to it. I was just wondering is it a improvment from the last Ingredients.?

But thanks "Guardian Angel's White lightning".
How does your "Malinois" do on Diamond Chicken and rice?

Hello Everyone!
First let me say thanks to all the people who answered my last question about some other dog food brand. Well i have another question about the dog food called "Diamond Naturals
Chicken & Rice Adult Dog Formula" i know that some people dont like this food brand.....but i know they have just changed their Chicken & Rice Formula to be better than the last.

Here are the NEW Ingredients::::

Chicken, chicken meal, whole grain brown rice, white rice, cracked pearled barley, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), oatmeal, beet pulp, egg product, flaxseed, natural chicken flavor, fish meal, potassium chloride, choline chloride, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin, vitamin D supplement, folic acid.

And here is the Guaranteed Analysis:::

Crude Protein 26.0% Minimum
Crude Fat 16.0% Minimum
Crude Fiber 3.0% Maximum
Moisture 10.0% Maximum
Zinc 150 mg/kg Minimum
Selenium 0.4 mg/kg Minimum
Vitamin E 150 IU/kg Minimum
Omega-6 Fatty Acids * 2.5% Minimum
Omega-3 Fatty Acids * 0.4% Minimum

So my question is>>> Is it much better than their last Ingredients? I and some of my friends are thinking about switching to this dog food......

Thanks so much!! :)
