Meet & Greet BPOers / Re: Cali. get together
« on: April 20, 2005, 09:59:00 pm »
Ohh getting jealous now, CA is a tad bit too far for me, I am in NC. But I agree, it is real hard to meet people that dont think you are a total nut. I used to have Danes and now different breeds, but I think I have heard it all, from people asking me what I was going to do with my danes when I had my first child!!!! (noone asked me what I was going to do with my first human baby when I was expecting the sescone) to people looking at my dogs asking "do they live indoors" and when I say that they do, and mostly hog the bed and pillow too, they just shake their heads and look at me with petty, as if I am probably not totally well "put together up there". I guess we are a special breed :>) But since you are way too far away. I'll go ahead and ask people in NC and SC if they would like to have a get together in the summer.

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Re: To shave or not to shave. . .
« on: April 20, 2005, 01:14:05 pm »
HI, Depending on a few things I would vote for a shave. I am a dog/cat groomer, no longer working, but for many years had people dealing with the same issue. And all in all, I have to say, that the ones that opted for a shave were always real pleased and said "wow why have we not done this before". I totally agree with a previous poster, look out for sunburn. But the skin condition overall will imporve if you shave, rather than having a dog that is too warm or when in water a lot and maybe not get real dry into the skin. Well I could go on and on lol.... But my six cents worth, is for a shave. Good Luck.

Introduce Yourself to the Forum / Re: Introductions!!
« on: April 20, 2005, 12:25:16 pm »
Hi, did some intro. when I joined but didnt see this. My name is Marit, married to my husband Chris for 5 years. We have three children (the human kind) and three dogs, one Bullmastiff, one Siberian Husky and one Golden mix, the two latter are rescues. We are also waiting on our OEM puppy boy, who we will be picking up monday. I also have one cat, her name is Trouble (need I say more), one parrot and two Degus (its a pocket pet, native from Chili). For now I am a stay at home full time mom, used to work with bus. administration, but since youngest child I have been home. Work with both dog and cat rescue, right now mostly active in MCR, Maine Coon Rescue, where I work as a Case Manager. We live in NC, but I am swedish and moved here about 5 years ago (hubby american), I have lived with dogs my whole life, used to have Danes, did conformation showing with them, and with my German Shepherd I did obedience. I am hoping to start the new puppy in therapy work when he gets a little older.

Transporting & Traveling With Dogs / Re: Modes of transport for dogs
« on: April 20, 2005, 12:09:14 pm »
Nope -  No convertible here!! With three dogs and one on the way, we just have to have a large car, but like you said with the gas prices I wish we didnt. Have one Dodge Ram with crew cab, so when the kids don't go I can bring dogs there. But hubby kinda don't like the slobbers and hair hmmmm funny how I dont even see them in the car lol...

My car is an older Rodeo, on the small side for being an SUV but large enough to hold my dogs. It is a little difficult when you have both a few dogs and three twolegged kids.

Since we are talking about cars and dogs, sometimes when I am alone with dogs in the car, I let one of them ride up front with me, and more than once have I thought about what would happen if I had a wreck. Have any of you seen the harness/seatbelts for giant breeds???? I have only seen them for large dogs, not quite big enough for a giant. If you know where to get them, please tell me.

:'(I am so sorry to hear about your loss and Dufas mom too. Have lost dogs before but knock on wood, never had to deal with amp. or bone cancer. The three legged toy is just too qute. Lucky dogs to have such devoted moms.

He is wonderful,
I am also new to this site, and am waiting on my OEM too, mind you he is not a big boy yet, only 9 weeks. He will be coming home in a week or so. I am active in rescue, both dog and cat, so hats off to you. And lucky him having found you, or was it the other way  ::)

Big slobbers,

Marit

Hi there,

He is a qutie, I just love the pic. on your site of him, where he is doing the typical "big dog with big lips rutine" and really show how not pretty they can be when they sleep lol.... ;D
I believe we live kinda close, and that you like basketball, right??? Am from outside Charlotte, NC. Have a Bullmastiff, a Siberian Husky (rescue) and a Golden mix (rescue) and am an expectant mom..... My OEM boy is 9 weeks old and will be coming home sometime during the next week. I am interested of showing but therapy is something that I have had in mind ever since I started looking for a Mastiff, I will go back to your page, and check out your link and hopefully my baby boy will do well and we can start working towards being in therapy.

Talk to you soon, and big slobbers to your big boy

Hi all,

Found this place, though a yahoo group. Good job!!! Seems to be a real nice place for people who like L-XXL dogs. I have one Bullmastiff 15 months old, and am waiting on my OEM, he will be coming home in the next 7 days, a 9 week old boy.

I also have one Golden mix (rescue) and one Siberian Husky (rescue), their feelings would have been very hurt if I didnt mention them, even though they are not real big  ::)
