Thats bad, first thing that came to my mind was. If you have a gate and they entered without your permission or a search order, it would be concidered tresspassing right? Cops cant just walk into someones property or into someones house as they like.

About the pitbull, haha it is a bit funny because if you have a large dog especially young ones that yet hasnt turned into their typical looks, they can be mistaken for a loooot of breeds, my Galahad has been a bloodhound, a st.bernard/blood hound mix and boxer lol. One cant but laugh, but I feel your anger, I would be furious if anyone just waltzed into my BY.

I fully agree with you about AKC, AND it saddens me. When I first moved here I thought AKC would be very similar to SKK (Swedish Kennel Klub) where they have done a wonderful work of educating and where needed been for legislation in order to protect the animlas. There is still lots of work to be done in the scandinavian countries but one thing say, in sweden we do not have animla shelters. not because we dont care, but we just dont need them. About 90% of all dogs are pure bred and planned breedings. Then there is a small number of oops breedings and mixes, they are usually sold by the "breeder" who is eager to find a good home, not just "get rid of" Also it is not any retail selling of dogs or cats, which I think is one reason to why some countries have almost 0 in euth. of unwanted dogs.

It is very upsetting that AKC is not there for the dogs and their welfare and health, thats why it is utterly important for all of us who do care and want a change to speak up and get organized and get our voice heard, a voice that will actually speak for the good of the dogs, rather than having our eyes set on profit.

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Change in Dog Food??
« on: December 29, 2005, 02:55:46 pm »
I can't but echo what Rachel said. Puppyfood is for small to medium sized dogs, large and giant breeds rarely need it, they will get too much protein and grow too fast to cut the explanation short  ;)

There are many good foods out there, I like the hollisic ones. Eagle Pack is one of my personal fav's. But I think the number one thing to look out for with a giant puppy is to not feed a food with too much protein.

When it comes to mandatory spay/neutering I am not for it. Yes I do believe it would cut down on the dogs who go through the shelter and have to be put to sleep. BUT in the long run I think a lot of s.k hobby breeders who breed for the love of that breed, to better it and to strengthen the positives in that breed. I do thing all breeders should be licensed though, I am all for PAWS, I  hear so much how that would harm the hobby breeder or rescues, no it wont, first if you breed 7 or more litters a year, it is doubtful you are a hobby breeder, second even if you are, whats wrong with having a min. standard for how the dogs should be kept and cared for? Me for one, if I bred only 1 litter a year, I would not mind having to follow these rather limited standards, because I know I would have my own standards way higher than that. Rescues dont breed and dont sell so they are not included.

Soooo with that law and even lisence for breeders I think a lot of the mills and breeders with no other in mind than making money would be weeded out. The one thing I think would do wonders for the amount of dogs and cats going through shelters is to stop retail selling of dogs.

Second micro shipping, I see both good and bad there, the bad is what everyone is worried about, big brother can see us wherever we are and it is a threat agains the freedom. BUT when it comes to animals, I microship all my dogs, and had it been done on horses when I had them I would have loved to do that too, why.. because if they get out, get stolen you name it, it is a security.

And for people hmmmm not saying it should or shouldnt, but a thought..... say your child, your 3 year old child get lost, simply lost or grabbed by someone who have in mind to do god knows what. If that was my child would I want to have a micro chip so I could see where he/she was? ohhhh yes in that situation I would I am sure think it was worth every little bit of given up freedom, just to get her/him back.

Bullmastiff Discussions & Pictures / Re: Our new Bullmastiff Puppy - Fergie
« on: December 29, 2005, 02:12:31 pm »
have you gone in under "paw prints"? there you can post Fergies bio and also on the left side there you have different options, where you can go in and change your profile, so you can add an avatar.

To add pictures to your post, you click on additional options under the box you type in when you post, you will get up a box and after that "browse" and if you want to add more than one pic you click on "more attachments" after the "browse" box and more room for pics will come up, you can keep doing that until you have added the pics you want to add to that post, there is a limit 400 kb per post, but thats a loooot lol

By the way welcome and I hope you will like it here, well silly I know you will like it here lol. I'm Marit and the proud mommy of one english mastiff, one bullmastiff, one siberian husky and a bunch of cats a couple of degus and a bird ohhh yeah and fishes lol. I also have 3 two legged kids and a hubby who on bad days make the two legged kid bunch 4 hehe

Hope to see lots and lots of pics of Fergie

Discussions & Information on Grooming / Re: Which Blower should we buy??
« on: December 29, 2005, 01:50:38 pm »
omg.... Iz is too cute, you all just have to stop buying and posting pics of long haired puppies  :D After grooming many many hours a day for years I decided I wanted only short haired dogs lol, but its getting harder and harder lol.

For your queston though, you have the really big stand dryers. On plus side, they are very fast, convenient at home. On the minus side though they are or can be really expensive and they totally suck if you want to bring them to shows.

For dryers that have a good capacity and are also okay to bring, you have a few that I think are very good and not too prizy. Metro Blaster B-3 is okay but with a newf. it will take a bit to get dry. the sibling Master Blaster MB-3 is great, fast and super effectiv but quite a bit more costly. Also the Metro Air Force Dryer the one with 4.0 php is really great and a really good price too.

If you want the dryer to be hands free, and buy one of the smaller  ones, just get one of the "arms" with a clip holder for the dryer hose and voila you have a hands free dryer and can use both hands to brush and hold.

Whatever you choose, I would check catalogs, and online, because if you order from petstores the add on quite a bit of money, money Iz can get lotsa lotsa toys for instead  ;D

Food Discussion & Information / Re: chocolate chip cookies are deadly!!!
« on: December 26, 2005, 03:21:38 pm »
I am so sorry to hear about your doggy being sick, it is really really nervwrecking having to deal with, our dogs being not well.

After having read how actually little choc. he ate, my thoughts are spinning a bit. What already has been said here, about how much choc. a dog usually would have to eat to get sick from it, is something I have heard from several vets too so I really dont think it is just something that is being said on internet. I wouldnt feed my dogs choc either, but having kids and dogs well sometimes the dogs get stuff to eat they shouldnt because someone left it somewhere and forgot about it lol.

Im thinking that maybe Bear is "hyper sensetive" the same way certain dogs and people for that matter get sick from things most dont.

I am glad to hear he is all well now. Poor Bear just wanted a few choc chip cookies  :D

Collars, crates, & other cool things / Re: Soft claws for dogs
« on: December 26, 2005, 03:01:21 pm »
I did use them on smaller dogs and cats when grooming, I have never used them on my dogs or put them on real big ones though. For the slipping and sliding I would probably try what a lot of people use in showrings to prevent slipping, its a wax kinda stuff you massage into their pads, its good for them and really helps with the slipping. I used it all the time on my danes when I showed them. That was in sweden, but I have seen those products here too.

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: Officially Sleep Deprived - Help!
« on: December 21, 2005, 01:44:59 pm »
Im sorry to hear Ranger keps waking you up. Dogs can react in all kinds of ways if there has been changes in their life. Maybe he is not sleeping the same way he did, so if he wakes up in the middle of the night he feels he needs to go, as if he keeps on sleeping he has no problem holding it until the morning.

I think if you just give him a little time to get used to whats new in yours and his life he will get back to sleeping better and longer and also not having to go in the middle of the night.

Good luck and tell him aunti Marit says he HAS to let mommy sleep, or shell send the mean kitty to come get him  ;D

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: He has become a Pee-Machine
« on: December 21, 2005, 01:35:17 pm »
Doghealer, I know what youre saying, some dogs just seem to take forever to get to a poin where they are fully housetrained AND safe.

Galahad has done the lying down when he was younger, I was in the room and he was lying down and looked like he was just resting, when he got up there was this humongus wet spot  :o

You might want to check the uti, there is two different kinds, the ones that are really nasty with discharges and fever and the whole nine yards, you cant possibly miss them, but the other kind can be "silent" and hard to detect. But some puppies pee constantly, so it may just be a phase he is going through.

Good luck and as long as he pees on the floor your good lol, when they decide its much better to get up in the bed or couch BEFORE they pee, its getting old pretty fast  ;D

I have to admit I was a little worried about all the cats we have here, but *knocking on wood* the only problem so fas is Galahads tail, and the fact that he is madly in love with the tree and wants to be as close as possible lol.

Sooo concidering 3 dogtail and 32 kitty paws we are doing really good, only had to buy one pack of extra ornaments so far  ;D

Anything Non-Dog Related / Re: 4 AM AND THE ALARM GOES OFF
« on: December 21, 2005, 12:59:22 pm »
:D Well today is a better day lol. Yesterday was a bit mmmm strained, you know the feeling when one of the kids for the 20th time say mooooom and you turn around and say what, what, what, whaaaaaat is it this time  ::)

Anyway, I have figured out whats wrong with the alarm, Don't EVER buy big battery packs where they usually dont sell lots and lots of them. Every single battery in the 8 packs I bought were dead, stone dead, so I changed all the batteries, and changed them to ones that were just as dead or probably even more so. Thats why they kept going off, they never did get the new batteries they wanted when they screamed the first time.

I took both packs back to walgreens, they said they were sorry, I kinda wish I had took them back today, yesterday was not a good time  ::) Im afraid I might have been a little overly mad about the dead batteries  :-\

Sooooo you all think we now can wait another two years to change the batteries  ::) ;D
