Remembering those no longer with us. / Sam's at the bridge
« on: August 16, 2009, 04:04:13 pm »
We lost Sam yesterday. Hit got loose the one thing I feared above all others. Because he couldn't hear danger.I let him out in his yard to play in his hole while we had coffee. I checked on him about 10 min and he was no where to be seen. Then through the fog I saw his shape go over the hill and down the street. I hoped with all my heart I could catch him or he would stop at the neighbors house. The house of his doggie friends. But he didn't he headed out into the street and was hit by a pickup. He was gone by the time I could run down the hill. My lovely baby boy. The man in the truck was so sorry he just couldn't stop in time. So my baby is gone and my heart is broken. And I am filled with guilt that all the times I watched him like a hawk, I messed up this time and he paid the price.  Rest in Peace my Gentle Spirit.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Loose stool and teething??
« on: March 27, 2009, 04:41:04 am »
Good morning all,
I have an issue with Sam and wanted your more experienced advice. Sam is 16 wks old and 42 lbs. He has been doing fine. My issue: sorry in advance if TMI...his stool has gone from being normal to being pudding-like and sometimes watery in 2 days. I have not changed anything in his diet or schedule. He is still playful and full of energy. Eating well and drinking. He has not eaten anything he should not have (as far as I can be sure) He has not been exposed to anyone new or any new areas. He is teething hard though. Could this be the reason for his stool issue? What would you suggest? He has a vet appt. next Tues. Should I just wait and see of should I go ahead and take him in? I prob. could not get him ni to his regular vet until tomorrow unless you guys think it is an emergency. Like I said before he seems fine other than the stool issue.
Thanks again,
Chris

Good morning. I am wondering about the bedding in Sams bed. I got him a crate bed, it is nice and big and fluffy. Great for the winter. But as it is just starting to warm up a little here in Ohio he seems uncomfortable and a little hot on it. I have given him a fan but it is just now starting to warm up. What do you that have your fur babies sleep in crates do when it is warm? Is is ok for him to sleep just on the bottom tray thing (it is plastic) I give him a sheet and his towel when he is in the crate anyway. Would this prob be enough? I don't like to sleep too hot and I dont want him to be panting hot coming out of sleep. What do you think?  Thanks again,
Chris

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Ihave a couple of questions...??
« on: March 15, 2009, 02:59:44 am »
Good morning Folks,
I have a couple of questions for the more experienced Pyr and biger paws parents.
1. I currently am feeding Sam Iams Large Breed Puppy and he is doing fine on it but I have seen on this and site and a few others were people recommend other types of food like Innova and Canaide. Are these food type better than what I am feeding? I have looked at the web sites for these foods and the food seem really good but how much better is good enough. My quandry..price and the fact I will have to either ship or travel to get them. No local supplier where I live. I want to feed him the best I can. So what do you all think??

2. Has any one used the Furminator on their Pyrs' I am not having a prob. with Sams grooming but he still has his baby fur. And is just now starting to get big boy fur donw his back. I have had Giant Mali's in the past and they are some shedding beasts too. ;D Keep them good with a rake and comb and brush. The furminator looks promising but will it work with the longish double coat Sam will have?

Sorry this is so long but the more research I do the more I want to ask other Pyr and Big hairy puppies parents what they use and think. I trust the judgement of yall' that have <a href="http://s152.photobucket.com/albums/s178/oldfart07/?action=view&current=S6300717-2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s178/oldfart07/S6300717-2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">[/url]practical experience.
Thanks for the help...and I'll up load some pics of His Hairy Highness later.
