Good morning. I am wondering about the bedding in Sams bed. I got him a crate bed, it is nice and big and fluffy. Great for the winter. But as it is just starting to warm up a little here in Ohio he seems uncomfortable and a little hot on it. I have given him a fan but it is just now starting to warm up. What do you that have your fur babies sleep in crates do when it is warm? Is is ok for him to sleep just on the bottom tray thing (it is plastic) I give him a sheet and his towel when he is in the crate anyway. Would this prob be enough? I don't like to sleep too hot and I dont want him to be panting hot coming out of sleep. What do you think?  Thanks again,
Chris

I understand your frustration. I have to say as a Triathlete and runner that I always slow down and walk by people with dogs because you don't know how they will react. Or what they are working on. I have the same problem with people that just zoom by and give no room and I have a puppy I'm trying to train not to give chase. Most of the folks I run with also slow to a walk by dogs. So it is not all of us.  :)I have a pet peeve about people sho insist on trying to pet your dog and let them do stuff you don't want even though you ask them nicely not to. I want Sam to be social but it's hard to teach him not to chew on people when they say "it's allright, I have dogs too" arrg...
I hope the jogger and runners in your area soon learn better. Grace, this jogger/runner will respect you and your parents space. And I'll tell others too.  ;D

Thanks guys/girls,
I have found a local dealer for the Innova food. She only stocks a few kinds but can order it for me. I was appalled and amazed that what they can and do sell for our dogs to eat. One of the most startling things is the "brand name" foods that are just crap. I want to thank you all for the help. My Hubby and I watch what we eat and try to eat really clean and green so to feed our baby junk is just not the way we want to live. Thanks again and I'm sure Sam will thank you too...when he wakes up from his nap. :)

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Ihave a couple of questions...??
« on: March 15, 2009, 02:59:44 am »
Good morning Folks,
I have a couple of questions for the more experienced Pyr and biger paws parents.
1. I currently am feeding Sam Iams Large Breed Puppy and he is doing fine on it but I have seen on this and site and a few others were people recommend other types of food like Innova and Canaide. Are these food type better than what I am feeding? I have looked at the web sites for these foods and the food seem really good but how much better is good enough. My quandry..price and the fact I will have to either ship or travel to get them. No local supplier where I live. I want to feed him the best I can. So what do you all think??

2. Has any one used the Furminator on their Pyrs' I am not having a prob. with Sams grooming but he still has his baby fur. And is just now starting to get big boy fur donw his back. I have had Giant Mali's in the past and they are some shedding beasts too. ;D Keep them good with a rake and comb and brush. The furminator looks promising but will it work with the longish double coat Sam will have?

Sorry this is so long but the more research I do the more I want to ask other Pyr and Big hairy puppies parents what they use and think. I trust the judgement of yall' that have <a href="http://s152.photobucket.com/albums/s178/oldfart07/?action=view&current=S6300717-2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s178/oldfart07/S6300717-2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">[/url]practical experience.
Thanks for the help...and I'll up load some pics of His Hairy Highness later.

Just wanted to say hello. I am proud to be owned by 14 wk old Sam. He is just so great. I was going to say good but sometimes he is bad/good. ;) I love all your great stories and information. I have owned or been owned by big dogs all my life but this is my first Pyr. He is an experience. Can't wait to cont. to hear about all your great dog/kids.
