Indestructible Crate Mat
« on: May 11, 2006, 02:21:39 pm »
Miss Destruction is at it again! She chewed the zipper off of her crate pad and chewed up all the foamy stuff inside. I bought a really nice one and two days later it was DESTROYED!!! :-\

Does anyone know where I can find a crate mat for a wire crate that's 48x28 without a zipper? I also don't want to spend too much just in case she chews it up again.

i heard once that cow mats make great bottoms for crates.. they're basically recycled tires that they use for cows.. however on cape cod nobody even knows what a cow is! but maybe you could try it!?!

HEHE! We have plenty of cows around here. I'm sure I could find one. I emailed blockydogs about the mats cause I couldn't find them on their website. Hopefully I'll hear back soon.

I got an email back from blockydogs saying that they no longer make the mats. However they were nice enough to give me websites that sell similar mats. So here they are...

The first is Dura-bull Dog beds at

The other company is Big Dog Beds at http://www.bigdogbeds.com/index.html.

I wouldn't use cow/horse mats as they smell really strong and are heavy.  Plus I don't think they'd provide the cushioning you want.  Our guys are the destroyers too so I don't have any suggestions.

We have had these double fleece mats in various sizes from Taylor Designed Pet Products for Cirra since she was a puppy and she has not chewed them.  She is quite a chewer and certainly could chew them however has not???

Holly velcro is such a good idea! Kitana only chewed the zipper, so the cover is still in good shape. I have a thick blanket in there now. She hasn't chewed that. I just think she likes zippers!

The reason I like a mat is that during the middle of the night she wakes up and plays with her kong. I tried taking it out, but then she whines. It's very annoying cause all you hear is her claws clinking around.

Every store bought (expensive) dog bed I have ever bought Jack has been destroyed in days.

I go to thrift stores and buy comforters for $5.  I fold it to fit into his crate and it provides plenty of cushioning.

And the joy of it is when he destroys it, I pitch it and put another one in that I keep in reserve.

This is a great idea!  We get fleece blankets in the same manner (at Walgreen's you can get 3 for $9.99 and have one for the car/truck and one as a backup) but they don't seem to be very comfy.  I wonder how long a comforter would last with Dell in his crate...
