Someone mentioned that I need to rent "Million Dollar Hotel", so I might try that next.  We rented "The Aviator" and I will watch that tomorrow.  I've always liked Howard Hughs.  I like movies about real people, too...and movies like "A Beautiful Mind", "The World According to Garp", and "Rainman".

Any Dustin Hoffman fans out there?  My favorite male actors are: Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Robbin Williams, Sean Penn, Robert De Niro, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt ( I don't particularly think he's the hottest, but he can act...he's proven that...) and Ewan McGregor (only because he IS hot)...

For women actors I completely adore Ashley Judd...I think she is the most elegant little woman and she always plays these roles where she beats the crap out of bad guys, or outsmarts them.  I also like Sandra Bullock, Faye Dunnaway, Cherize Theron, Angelina Joli (she is the most beautiful woman in the world...in my mind), Sophia Loren, and Claire Forlani.

I don't particularly care for the acting of Charlie Sheen, Julia Roberts (though she made an excellent documentary where she lived with a family in Mongolia), Harrison Ford, Jim Carey, Pierce Brosnan...  It was very difficult to see Jim Carey in that movie...um...I can't recall the name of it...the serious one...After all the overacting he does in all the other films, it didn't seem possible that he could be sad.

Oooooo!  Marit!  "The Green Mile" is a goodie...as is "Shawshenk Redemption".

Has anyone seen "Without a Paddle" and the scene where the cannibis field catches on fire and the two rotties are acting goofy?  Trouble is, rotties look like that a lot of the time anyway.   :D

Marit,

It's funny!  I think I am easily amused, too.  Most people don't know it, cause I can sit through a Jim Carey movie and not crack a smile and I tend to be pretty serious til I warm up to people.  However, "South Park: The Movie" is hilarious and so is "Beavis and Butthead Do America!"  I also like Tom Green.  I have a childish, lewd sense of humor and much prefer the toilet scenes in movies like "Dumb and Dumber" to any of the jokes or other stuff in the movie (if you see me rewinding 'just the toilet scene' over and over again, then you imagine correctly)...Of course, I also found "Dogma" to be so ironically funny, and especially "I heart Huckabees"...that was really one of the funniest.  "Team America" on the other hand, just didn't cut it for me, but "Sideways" was AWESOME!

Can't stand the romantic stuff but love action, comedy and horror.  Seven is probably one of the few perfect movies made.  It's perfect in the sense that everything happens like Kevin Spacey wanted and then it ends.  Not the storybook ending, the Se7en ending.  I walked out of the theater reeling.  On a Brad Pitt tip, Fight Club is great too.  Just got The Grudge on DVD, good and freaky!  I really like the 6th Sense, Unbreakable and Silence of the Lambs (Put the Fuckin' lotion in the basket!!!).  As for comedies, Caddie Shack, Dumb and Dumber, Office Space, Animal House and Half Baked make me laugh so hard I cry every time I watch them.  Beavis and Butthead Do America and South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut are freaking hilarious too, but probably the best animation made so far has to be The Incredibles.  That movie is literally, INCREDIBLE.  The Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Alien and Lord of the Rings series are must have movies as well.  SO there's my picks.

I will have to second the motion on The Incredibles. But, of course, Pixar will always give you a fine story and good characters (Toy Story 2 was actually my favorite). But the best movie I saw last year was Finding Neverland. Just a beautiful movie all the way around.

I'm not much of a Mel Gibson fan, but I had to watch The Patriot because someone mentioned a Great Dane in it that looked like mine.

One of my favorite movies, though is Amores Perros ( translated- Love's a b****). It is gut wrenching, emotional, and heart-breaking at times, but incredibly well done. And it displays the great bond that humans can have with their dogs. A warning though: The movie contains fake dog-fights and blood and the way it is filmed makes everything look very real, but no animals were hurt in the making of the film. It is not everyone's cup of tea (and it is subtitled), but a very different film from the traditional hollywood stuff.

Jason,

I love your new avatar.

Tina

Thanks Tina. I had a great pic of my boy, but his other eye was a weird glazed over green dot. Instead of fixing it, I figured I would be kind of artsy.

I saw "Mad Hot Ballroom" last night, and I loved it.  For anyone who hasn't heard of it, it is a documentary about the ballroom dance program in the public schools in New York, and it follows three different schools as their 10 and 11-year olds get ready to compete in a ballroom dance competition.  It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is a wonderful movie, and often very funny.  I really recommend it.
