Hubby brought home yet another orphaned baby.
« on: September 15, 2006, 03:26:37 am »
First he brought me a young adult Pigeon.. then the Raccoon.. now he brought me home another Pigeon. Only this one is young. Approximately 2-4 days old. Luckily I have experience with handfeeding birds, mainly cockatiels. Pigeons feed a little differently but I'm getting the hang of it. I sent hubby to the pet store lastnight for formula. The little guy seems to be doing well. He's an active little bugger and always seems to be hungry.

Anyway here he is or she. :D

It's the opposite here. He brings them home and I feed them. LOL

He called me on his way home with the bird and says I have a present for you. I knew automatically and asked what kind of animal he was bringing home. :D He says I don't know.. It's a bird but I don't know what it is. LOL

When he got home and brought it in I didn't know what species it was either I had to look it up on the net.  :D

Now your hubby sounds like mine ! Once , when mine was helping clean out grain bins , he brought home three owl eggs . I looked at him like " What am I supposed to do with these ?" and he said " Can't you hatch them ?" and I'm thinking , what does he want me to do ,sit on them ? LMAO  ;D

Could be! ;) I think we are going to keep him if he makes it. It's kinda touch and go when they are this young so I don't want to get my hopes up. But even though he isn't the cutest thing on earth I'm already pretty attached to him.

Bubba is VERY interested in him though. Lola could care less. But Bubba looks at him like mmmmm chicken. :-\ So I have to keep a close eye on him.

He's still tiny but he's growing. It appears his pin feathers will be coming in soon. It looks like we made it past the critical first week. ;D

Here's a couple new pics.  :)

Just an update.. He's growing. ;D

He's still an ulgy little fellow, but he's starting to look somewhat like a bird now.

Still no name yet..  :-\

Oh forgot to add that I phoned 2 local wildlife rehabbers and neither are interested in raising him so that he could eventually released. :( I even offered to keep him until he is weaned.. but in order to be released he needs to know that he's a bird and learn from other Pigeons.

He thinks that I am him mommy. So if I even released him when he was ready he would either not leave or fly to the first person he saw. My stupid neighbour would kill him so that's out of the question.

The rehabbers said that Pigeons are basically pests so they don't take them. ::) What's funny is that they took those 2 baby raccoons I brought them. Now to most people Raccoons are pests too.

So it looks like we are 100% for sure keeping him. I couldn't just release him and hope he lived.
