The vet asked me to bring Thomas back in, b/c he's still doing well. They gave him a couple of days to a couple of weeks left about a week before Christmas, so it's suprising that he's even alive, let alone doing quite well.
I took him in this morning, and the vet couldn't feel the large tumor that was on one kidney. He was shocked. He was also surprised the Thomas weighed 11.25 pounds!! He's never weighed that much and was sooo skinny when he first got sick. He said that he's been a vet for over 20 years and stuff like this just doesn't happen that often. He asked if he could do an ultrasound.
He called me a little while ago with the results of the ultrasound:
Tumor 1 on kidney 1: Was over 6.5 cm in diameter and is now 3.8 cm (this was the one he was feeling for)
Tumor 2 on kidney 2: Was 4.8 cm in diameter and is now 4.0cm
Tumor 3 in his intestines: Was 4.0 cm by 3.8 cm and now they can't even see it on the ultrasound! It seems that it has disappeared!
He is doing bloodwork now to check his kidney function, I think. He said the "architecture" of his kidneys still isn't quite right. He doesn't want to get my hopes up, b/c he doesn't think we can cure the cancer. But he is going to consult with an oncologist once the bloodwork is in to see if there is another course of treatment that may work better to prolong his life (right now he's just on prednisone).
I should also mention that Thomas is still pretty active (he's always been kind of lazy), following me around the house, sleeping up in the bed with me, and eating like a champ. He doesn't appear ill, either-he's alert, his coat looks great... He looks like a healthy cat.
