Coconuts??
« on: March 26, 2007, 02:48:57 pm »
Does anyone know if Coconuts are safe for dogs? Phelan found the shell of one in the park the other day and went nuts....zoomie s, which are rare for him. So I bought one in the store and gave it to him to play with, but on the off chance that he cracks it open, is it safe?

they put coconut extract in some shampoos, so i don't see a problem unless phelan cracks it and it could get lodged in his throat.  or if he drinks an outrageous amount of the liquid it might give him a little diahhrea.  might wanna pull some of the "hair" off if it's lose, so it won't stop him up though.

He doesn't ever swallow his toy fluff or anything, so the hair is being pulled off and tossed to the floor. I'm not planning on letting him eat the coconut if he cracks through, the shell would be too sharp but if he does manage to crack it and i'm not on it, i just want to make sure the coconut is okay.

Kind of my thoughts too, Coconut $.98, rubber tire $23, and the tire gets destroyed and makes a huge mess.

Sounds like it's worth a try... everything gets shredded.  Shasta got into the closet to day and had toilet paper shredded throughout the house :o (we buy from Costco).
We're gonna try coconuts!!

OMG I soooo have to try this coconut thing...  Morph destroyed Masons football two days ago and they sill arent really speaking to one another.  So when I go to wal-mart later to replace said football I will definatly get a coconut too.  Pics to follow this afternoon.

So far the coconut is providing hours (literally he is so into it!!) of entertainment. Phelan isn't big enough to get his mouth around the coconut to pick it up so he's been rolling it all over the floor and trying to get a grasp on the hair. No pictures yet but I'll see what i can do ;)

Another great toy that's cheap and leads to hours of fun is a baby pumpkin. Kate got her 1st at around 13 weeks old and has loved them ever since... ;)

Note: I would highly recommend a baby pumpkin as an "outside" toy only, they're yummy too so they will get eaten eventually! :D
