Are you registered to be a bone marrow/stem cell doner?
« on: May 02, 2007, 04:34:58 pm »
I know this isn't dog related but it's just SO important to get the word out . Starting May 7th , for two weeks the National Bone Marrow Doner Program will be having a special drive called "Thanks Mom" where the $52 fee will be waived and it will be absolutely FREE to join ! You could potentialy save someone's life ! You can go to a blood bank near you that does it or I believe you can even order a "kit" from this website http://www.marrow.org/HELP/Join_the_Registry/Join_Now/join_now.html?src=text and all you have to do is swab your mouth with a q-tip ,so easy ! I've been following a beautiful little boy's story http://www.trevorkott.com who recently passed away because they could not find a doner match   Here's another little boy waiting for a match , he only has a few weeks ! http://www.ethanpowell.com And then this little boy , Levi , is from MN and is actually son to friend's of our's , he's waiting to find a match for a stem cell transplant . http://www.npcbc.org/Levi.html
I'm sorry if I've broken any rules posting this , it's just so very important .Lives depend on it ! Please get swabbed this next week to help save a life !

Amy my command did this when I was in the Navy about 7 years ago.  Four years ago I got called up to the Skippers office and was told that I was a match to a guy in Mass.  So they flew me to Bathesda Naval Hospital for a week to donate bone marrow to him.  It was free of charge and extreamly simple.  I took special pills for 4 days that leeched bone marrow out into my blood stream and toured the city, then the next 2 days they hooked me for about an hour and a half to pretty much an IV and took blood, strained it and put it back in my other arm.  It was no more painful than giving blood.  Nothing like the horror stories that you hear about them actually pulling bone marrow out of your bones like they used to.  Me and Steven and his wife Dotty are still in contact and his Lukemia has been in full remission for 3 years.  It was an awesome experience and I would recommend that Everyone sign up to be a donor.  You really can change someones life.

Well I just tried to sign up but apparently since I see a chiropractor on a regular basis I am not eligible to donate. :-\  It said that I would probably have complications if I donated.  Well I tried!!
God placed me on this earth to accomplish certain tasks...I'm so far behind I'll never die!!
