Poor Mama Cat is Dehydrated
« on: July 20, 2005, 09:05:03 pm »
So the cats we picked up earlier today, the kittens are doing quite well they eat and drink, they were not in as bad shape as their mama, who has been nursing them. She is dehydrated and very very skinny, I am still waiting on some kind of answer from a couple of rescue groups if they can take them in or not, but as I said earlier it is kitten season and all cat rescue groups have maxed out their foster homes it seems.

I had to put mama cat in a carrier and set an IV on her, she is drinking but the shape she is in that wont be enough, so we are now trying to re-hydrate her, hopefully she will be better in the morning, she is not too happy about being put in a smaller carrier and wasnt too impressed by the iv either. I am pretty sure it was a matter of maybe a couple of days at the most before she had passed away out in that heat with nothing to drink.

Please keep all your fingers and paws crossed for her

Well the kittens are doing real great, they are eating and we have gotten rid or all the ticks and at least for the moment the fleas, they have started to play and they are funny, one of them has a major issue with going potty, has to be real privat hehe. So I am pretty confident that the babies will be doing just fine.

The mama is better today, she is eating more and is drinking more too. I have took the iv away, she doesnt appear dehydrated anymore, she actually even looks like she has put on a tiny tiny bit of weight, I know it sounds crazy but her belly was soooo totally empty and "sunk in" so now when it is fuller it looks better.

I will keep you all updated and keep, keep your fingers and paws crossed for my newest fosters

We have all fingers & paws crossed here Marit & that's LOTS of fingers & paws too!...lol!...I bet mama cat & kitties think they've died & gone to kitty heaven with you caring for them!...Now mama can spend her energy doing what she should be...taking care of her babies...inste ad of merely surviving!!!!

Well mama cat still wont really even look at her babies, I think she has had such a hard time, so she is now concentrating on staying alive, hopefully we can help with that. The babies are eating solid food well though, I am sure they have had to feed on crickets and whatever they could catch for some time, to add to what mommy could give.

Mama cat is doing a lot of resting, she is very tired and I cant blame her, she had to care for babies and not have food herself.

We are soooooo appreciating all the fingers and paws crossed

i have a cricket story!  lol

when my sister buit her house, they moved in with their kittie simon.  he would go down in the unfinished part fo hte basement, get a cricket, take it to the living room floor, and spit it out.  then, he would let it hop, and as soon as the critter thought it was safe, simon would pounce and hold it in his paw....let it go, and do it all over again! he never ate one, stacy would always find them dead, lol, but he sure loved to torture them!

hehe sounds like a fun kitty game. I took the kittens out for a little play earlier today, in the yard I mean, and they were really into cashing the crickets, that made me think that maybe we should keep them and have them as cricket traps hmmmm wonder if they work as mosqueto traps too.

shhhhhyyyyyyy dont tell Chris, but Malin and I are trying to figure out a plan where he dont know what happened until it is too late and he just dont know what hit him hehe.

Okay so he is allergic, they have fantastic meds today, and he already has to use them due to our Trouble hehe, hmmmmm wonder why his mom doesnt like me, ohhhhh well never mind.

If worst comes to worst, and he ablsoutely cant live with them in here, we have two buildings, one at the other house and one back here. I would put a window unit air in there and they could live there and be outdoor/indoor cats, we live on a dead end street so that would be a possiblility. I am already falling in love with the cute little kids.

Still have some major work to do on Chris though, wish me luck
