A reputation for taking in any animal, that is.  First a neighbor found a male peacock in his backyard and who is the first person he thinks to call?  You guessed it!  Us.  And what do we do?  You guessed it again - we took the peacock home!  It since has flown away...

Well, now Katie's boyfriend's little sister found some baby bunnies and, yup, brought them to us to take care of.  I gave her a lecture about how they look nice and healthy and the mother is probably still around and she should put them back but she said she's had them a week already, so it's too late to return them to their nest.  So somehow, I get stuck with the babies!

Annoyed as I am, I have to admit they are so cute!  Two little cottontails.  I don't know how old they are, but they are at least 17 days old.  She said their eyes were open when she found them and that happens at about 10 days old.  So now I take a crash course in caring for orphaned bunnies.  Anyone have any advice?  They are tiny yet, the two of them can easily fit into one of my hands...their little ears are only about an inch long. :D  She said they are eating some greens already.  I'll have a list of questions for sure when I schedule a vet visit.  Hopefully they get a clean bill of health...they are alert and don't seem lethargic at all.  And they are chubby little fuzzies too...

Thank you for the info!  I doubt she gave them any type of formula.  She is 11 and was told to leave them in their nest, but she took them out anyway.  I'm very annoyed and frustrated, because she said one has died already and there's no reason for it, if she had just left well enough alone and left them there like she was told.  From what I can tell, she had them in a large box with a towel lining it and just gave them some grass.  I know kids will be kids, but it is still frustrating!

I would call your vet before giving any type of milk replacer. As Rabbits are omnivores and cats carnivores, their dietary needs differ greatly. Also, there may be a wildlife rehabilitator in your area which would be better able to take care of these ADORABLE little babies. I would call the vets in your area and see if they reccommend any other places or have any advice for you. It is also illegal to keep wild animals in your home without a rehab license in most places. Just be careful, and I wish you the best of luck!!!!!!
