Need advice or suggestions
« on: August 27, 2008, 03:49:25 pm »
for mosquitos!!  Poor Gunner has  a reaction to them everytime he goes outside.  This am his head, back legs and underbelly were covered in welts,  some were the size of a quarter!!  his poor head looked like one of those pimple dog balls.  he doesnt stay out long either.  he goes out the doggie door and lets himself in when ready.  Kira doesnt have this reaction or she isnt getting bit like Gunner.
Is there anything I can spray on him to help keep him from getting bit?  We have sprayed the outside perimeter of our fence but not the inside of the yard because Gunner lately will chew/eat whatever he can put his mouth on, including bricks, rocks, fence, wire, hoses, grass,a birds nest  that fell out of a tree, toys,  his blankie and the list goes on and on and on.

I've used Flys Off spray with some success.

It's chock full of chemically goodness, so we use it as a last resort when the mosquitoes try to carry them away.

I was also going to suggest a horse product.  Some are better than others.  And you may want to dilute it a bit, esp. if he has more sensitive skin.

I use tea tree oil ( afew drops on the collar--if they are really bad I put it on the belly  too) drops on the collar. It seems to have worked well for us this year.

I use Equicare Flysect.  It's for horses so I don't douse them with it but it's pretty effective with just a few sprays.

Be REALLY carefull with the equine stuff Guys! It can be extremely toxic to dogs.

These Play Dead Herbal Collars seem to be working great even for mosquitoes. The strongest nonherbal stuff I've ever put on the Pups is Avon Skin So Soft.

I can't believe how fortunate we've been up here in northern MN this year. There have been very few of those nasty buggers and I pay tribute to the influx of the dragonflies for keeping them under control.
