Update on gate

Don't want to bore you but......

I took the trash out to the curb late last night. I left Luke in the house so I wouldn't have to fool with him. He was watching me out the window.

Anyway, I guess when I put the padlock back on I missed the hole in the gate latch. This morning my neighbor rang the door bell and said he put Luke back in the fence.

So.....Luke is opening the gate.

As soon as I wrote that this morning I felt kind of stupid because I can't figure out how he would do it. But I find it hard to believe that someone (human) could open it the one day the lock was not properly attached. Is it possible that he could grab it and pull backwards until it's open?
