Barking me crazy @ 4:00am

Hello I need help badly.  We have two labs Ages 2yrs. and 11/2 years.  Every morning around 4:ooa.m. One of them barks, and barks until our alarms go off.  We know thqat we shouldnt respond to them because it just approves the behavior.  We try to let them out as late as we can but they still do it.  They are normally quiet throughout the day so its really hard to know which one it is if not both.  how do we solve this problem?  Is there a solution that wont cost a fortune.

What are they barking at?   Is there a noise that they are responding to?  Do they sleep in your room?
