I agree with those who said to move the crate. Unfortunately, having it in the bedroom, where the dog can see and/or hear you may only make the problem worse. I've tried the bedroom thing when Keiko was a pup. Any time I moved or rolled over, the crying would start in again.
With Gunther, the crate went in the kitchen, where it remains. At first, I tried the yelling, and hitting the side of the crate (that actually seemed to work with him), but in the end, completely ignoring him was really the way to go. It took about 4 sleepless nights before he found out I was not coming in there to get him or talk to him or do anything with him. And believe me, it is sooo hard to do when they will cry for hours on end. But it works, and after those 4 days, he never cried in his crate again.
In fact, at the same time, I was teaching him the word "kennel", and eventually he would go right in to get his treat. He would even go in there to relax when I was tootling around the kitchen. It just takes time. Some take longer than others, but if you are consistent I wouldn't think it should take longer than a week or two.
