So I broke my computer.
« on: February 06, 2006, 09:21:30 am »
I was going to make my photoshop entries last night and went to load some new clip art I ordered.  Well...the computer said I was out of disk space which I knew was going to happen sooner or later since this computer is 8 years old.  I started removing things I don't use or could live without till we get a new computer soon...and now I think I removed something important because my Kodak easyshare software says I terminated it illegally and my PrintMaster asks me to close all other programs even though I don't have anything else open before it asks me to clean up my disk which I did last night and opened up a lot of disk space doing.  I tried to remove the kodak program and the printmaster program and it won't let me.
I'm gonna try again tonight to remove and reinstall these programs.  Man I hope I didn't screw it up too bad.  I'd ask my computer literate husband to help but he bite my head off last night for asking (when he offered to enlighten me on computers) if the processor was the same thing as the hard drive and if it wasn't was it in the box thing called the hard drive.  Man I listened to him scream at me for 30 minutes about him being sick of people not understanding him and if he was speaking in Spanish ... and I told him no you're speaking in computer and I don't understand that.   So I dropped the issue.
I'm so bummed.
If anyone has any advise or is computer savvy...I'm open to ideas?

You can re-install Kodak and Printmaster.  Both of these programs should have a "fix or repair" when you go to load.  You might have to do it from safe mode....restar t your computer and while it's turning back on, hit f9 and f11 alternately (xp) or f4 for 98.  As your puter starts up there should be a screen - very fast, btw - that tells you which f button to push to get safe mode.  You could try to uninstall these programs before re-installing them if you have made back-up copies of everything.  Next, find a copy of Norton Wintools.  If you borrow it, you can run the programs from disk but you can't reverse anything if you do so.  Run Windisk and that should clean up any reg-entries, unused space, or any broken connections.  Also, make sure you have Spybot 1.4, Ad-Aware, and Win Spyware...ALL 3!  They complement each other.  That should free up loads of space.  If you don't have a firewall, download the free version of ZoneAlarm.  You'll be surprised at how much more mileage you can get with these things.  If you need help or want someone to talk you through it, om me and I'll send you my phone #.

Safe mode.  I didn't think about that.  I'm hoping it lets me remove to reinstall these things.  I've seen the repair option and tried it last night.
I have both of the install disks at home for Kodak and Printmaster.

I'll try this stuff tonight and let you know what happens.  I may want to have you talk me through it...that would be way cool.  I gotta do this when he's not home so I don't have to aggrivate him any more than I already have.

Thank you Thank you

Oh...so I spend 3 hours removing and reinstalling last night.  I got the Printmaster working...but my kodak easy share is having issues.  I'll try it one more time tonight.   I did get Kodak Picture CD program to install and that will do for pulling pics into the Printmaster program for now.  :) I guess I'm not as dumb as I thought.   Thanks for your help.
