Cosequin will keep her moving well without the side effects of Rimadyl long term.  Can your mom get that as well??

I'm so glad she's feeling better.

Cowboy and Chester felt so sad when they heard Kali was under the well :( :( :(

Drools and hugs!!

I sure hope the good feeling you see tonight continues!  Barkley would go on a hunger strike every once in a while (who would want to eat dry kibble day after day???) so we began to 'hide' a little bit of canned at the bottom of hte kibble.  Works like a charm!

We only give her the rimadyl on those days when she's sore like today.  But we're definitely going to look into Cosequin and the other supplements and try to find what's right for her. (We started discussing it before the latest troubles)  Plus I think she's getting tired of the Eukanuba so maybe there will be a switch in the near future and we'll probably start adding stuff to her food in the am to make it more appetizing because that's usually when she picks at it.  She is so spoiled as it is.  But I'll update tomorrow with the xray results.

when they heard Kali was under the well

....sheesh!!! When will I learn to proofread???

I give Cowboy and Chester Cetyl M which is supposed to be great (and even better than Cosequin) for our big guys.  I get their Cetyl M from www.katiesbump ers.com .  Maybe look in to it?  I think there are a lot of good choices and you have to do what is best for you and Kali.

Cowboy has some pretty serious arthritis in his front elbows and he'll limp if he's not on something...Co sequin was good and so is Cetyl M...

Drools....

Kali...Bear send his love and is keeping his paws crossed for you!  ;) He also wants you to know that he only will eat a pill with peanut butter on it and sometimes he'll spit it out just to get more peanut butter on it. :D

Also, Bear was on Eukenuba when he came home to us and stayed on it until he got bored too.

Bear!  you're goofy!  Lady does that too.  I'm lucky with Grace.  she eats anything that's not nailed to the floor.

Kali needs some fingers and paws crossed: Good/Bad News
« Reply #21 on: March 30, 2006, 02:33:28 pm »
Good news....her hips are good from the xrays...enough to pass OFA certs even.  Bad News....We're not certain what exactly is the problem except that she may have chipped her femur. :o  Indicated by a white spot on the femur below the head.  She's now limping through the Rimadyl and it took 4 people my mom, brother, and the two vets to get the good xray of her the turkey.  She hated being on her back.  But she's going on Rimadyl for 10 days and is going to get Cosequin every day from now on.
Our guess is she's getting bored with her food but she ate today so we'll stick with the Eukanuba at least til we finish the current supply, even though I think we should switch so I'm going to try to convince everyone else we should.  But no Lyme which was a major concern.  Now if she'll get better from the limping we'll be good.

Great news on Kali's hips (I am sure you are thrilled  :))...sorry to hear about teh femur.  Are they going to try to do anything about the chipped femur (How on earth do you do that??) or let it try to heal on its on??

Oh no, poor Kali! How do they think she could have done that? Hope she's feeling better soon! :)

We think it could be from a wipeout she had when playing with the IWs in her puppy class but we're not sure it that's what it was.  I wasn't there and I can't remember the full story behind the wipeout but I think she got sandwiched between the IWs flipped over one and run over by the other. Or she ran into something because she like most newfs has no concept of stopping distance or her size.

Hi,

Poor Kali, if you do convince everyone to switch food, do it now and use the remainder of the Eukanuba to transition the switch. Changing food too quickly adds a whole new set of what the HECKs so gradually lower the Euk and raise the new stuff over 2-3 weeks.

Not sure whether to clap or cry for her!  I'm so glad that it isn't her hips though!  A chip should heal given some rest.  Good for you for getting right on it and trying to get to the bottom of it!  Hope that she can rest up and get to feeling like her old self.  The dog food issue is so tough!  There are so many choices and even when you think you're doing right, sometimes you get blindsided.  Good luck finding a good fit for her!
