Dangit, Samson!!!
« on: June 17, 2006, 10:20:54 pm »
:( I am not a happy camper right now. Awhile ago, we heard a loud growly-barkey sound come from downstairs. We looked down and Sammy was standing in the hallway alone. The sound had come from him. Then we saw Connor hiding in the other room, looking a little freaked out. It was one of those things where you say, "oh Sammy be nice to Connor"... and keep eating your hamburger.

Well... I just was down here giving Connor some love and noticed blood on his face. It turns out Sammy bit him on the bridge of his nose. :'( It's not terrible, but poor Connor!!! Samson has hated him from day one, and we don't know why. He has really singled him out. :-[ But this is the first time that anything happened more than a grumpy growl!

I foster Sammy for a rescue group, and now I have to tell them that he has bitten another dog. :'( CRAP! Why'd you have to do it, Samson??? Connor is just a big goofy puppy. He doesn't mean any harm! He's such a sweety. Sammy has been a bit of a grumpus lately, but this... all I can say is Dangit, Sammy!!! :-[

Oh no. Poor Samson-poor Connor. I agree with Tina maybe there is some "other" problem going on with Samson. I wish you all the best :)

Hopefully it's just a matter of boys will be boys and they will work it out. Maybe that one bite on the snout will be enough to get the pack order in order.
Tealk is starting to challenge Dozer and Dozer doesn't like it one bit. No bites so far just a lot of barking. I hope they don't bite each other.

Thanks for everybody's insights. I feel like I know Sammy pretty well, and he has never acted like this before, so I am going to try to get him a vet appointment tomorrow for an exam. I think maybe he is not feeling good. I would hate to think I am blaming him for bad behaviour if there is something physical going on.

He is great with female dogs, never a problem, in fact Turkey and Mokey climb all over him all the time like he is "Uncle Samson", and he doesn't mind a bit. But he has been getting really mad at Connor and sometimes Nigel too. But they are more his size. Maybe he just wants to be the only dude around? ;)

Well, I shall see what the doc has to say.

Well, we dropped Sammy off at the vet this morning so they are going to examine him sometime today. They suspect he might have a back problem... so we'll see. :-\ I just hope we can figure out a way to make him feel better (and less grumpy!)... there are some people who might be interested in adopting him so we want to make sure he is in top condition!!!!

Boy he did NOT like it when the guy vet assistant led him away from us in the waiting room!!!!

Well, they found some issues! That are treatable!!! It turns out that Sammy has loads of bacteria in his urine! :o So I've got some antibiotics for him. And he has a slight heart murmur, probably due to him having had heartworms. And there was one more thing, I think she said he showed some signs of pain in his low back, so anyhow I've got some Rimadyl for him.
The GREAT thing is that his hips checked out! YAY!!!! I was worried. Oh Heavens. But he's ok there.
And his bloodwork is A-OK.

So, the doc thinks that after this round of meds Sammy will be feeling like a new man, and we'll be back for a re-check in 3 weeks. YAY!
 :)
Poor guy is SO exhausted from being at the vet clinic all day!!!

Whew!  Like Jackmom said, I'm glad they found something and I'm really glad it's nothing major.  We all get grumpy when we don't feel so great.
