Peeing in the house... at a year??
« on: June 28, 2006, 08:05:02 am »
Riley's going to drive me nuts. He peed on my floor yesterday. Granted, he was left unattended on carpet (this is the only time that this happens). A friend of mine who is going to watch my pets while I'm out of town (this Friday through next Wednesday) came over with the key I gave him to get something he left there on Sunday. He took the dogs out of the kitchen where I baby-gate them during the day to prevent stuff like this. Anyway, I came home to pee on the carpet and the fluffy mess that used to be the innerds (sp?) of one of Sadie's bears (I think Riley de-fluffed him, as he did my pillows a couple of weeks ago).

This happens every now and then (the peeing). It's pretty rare, b/c I am careful to put them in the kitchen. He *can* hold it. He holds it all night. He doesn't pee in the bedroom (anymore, he did a couple of times) and waits until I get up or until he can't hold it anymore and then he barks.

But why? He's almost a year old (tomorrow is his bday). What the heck? There isn't a medical reason for this. He does it at random. Sometimes, if I go somewhere for just an hour or two, I'll leave them out in the living room, and he's fine. What gives??? At least I'm moving soon, and hopefully I won't have carpet or will get rid of it asap if I do.

I got really excited when I saw your post.... Number one there is someone else out there with a 1 year old dog peeing in the house...its  not just us.

Farley was house trained totally now at 1 year just after his birthday he started marking aghhhhh. Vdoglover suggested bellybands--I ordered a pattern I just have to make it. http://www.dog-breeds.net/dog_diaper_belly_band.htm

Maybe they are just being the typical teen and rebelling ;)

I kind of wish it was a rebellion thing. Riley's not really marking things. He goes to the same area, just like outside, and he's never gone for more than a month or so, I think, without having an accident. It's soooo frustrating. He rarely will have them when I'm home now (but about a month and a half ago he started to pee right in front of me on his spot on the carpet), just when I'm gone or occasionally in another room (like hanging clothes in the closet, which I keep him out of).

Oy.

Oh, no! Perhaps I should give up and make sure the place I'm buying doesn't have carpet! LOL But with a big paw, you get big pee. It's like a flood. Riley stores enough water for a small army.
