Is it creepy to talk to other people's dogs?

Ok, so I have spotted two gorgeous, enormous Newfies a few blocks away, one black, the other a Landseer (sp?)  Anyway, my husband and I walked the dogs by their house the other night and they were in the yard with a chain link fence.  So of course, we stopped and let everyone sniff, etc.  They are sooo cute and BIG- I mean, they make Binky look like a little peanut!  And I was talking to them, you know, telling them they're cute and my husband said we needed to leave b/c he was afraid their owners would come out and think I was a nut!  What do you think?  Would you mind someone with dogs admiring yours or would you call the police?  Also, I have to assume that someone with two newfs is as dog crazy as I am, right?  I did not reach in and pet them, although I was very tempted- thought that might be crossing the line!

Haha, me too!  I feel bad, I'm always saying hi to dogs and never the people!

Just today I saw Cole, my black Lab neighbor & called out hello to him...I had to ask my husband what Cole's person's name was though so I could greet her too...lol!

I bet they were inside looking out the window giggling saying "Oh look, someone else who talks to other people's dogs."  "See, huney, we're not crazy!"

I'd love to talk to the neighbor dogs but with the trouble I've had with the neighbors I have set some serious "social" boundries up around my personal space and don't cross it from inside either.  besides. .. who knows what my neighbors have told their dogs about Lady and Grace.  Lies I tell you...they're all lies!

If it's creepy to talk to other peoples dogs-than I am a CREEP!!! I'm like you Gypsy, I know the names of all of the dogs in the neighborhood, but not so great with their people  .

Well, good to know that you all think it's ok.  Of course, my husband thinks everyone on this board (me included) are nuts, so I'm not sure how comforted I should be!
It's funny that there are other people who know all the neighborhood dogs' names but not the people's!  I can still think back to the neighborhood we lived in when I was really young, and remember all of the dog's names!...yep, we're all creepy!

we're concerned more about dogs than people sometimes.  I know the lady down the road who is "Zac's Mom" and there's "whiskey's parents" next door...and he has a brother Obie.  etc.  I think in most cases I like the dogs better than the people.

I wouldn't do it unless I knew the person, But I don't mind if people talk to my dogs at all! I think it's cute when people talk to them, lol.

What are you, nuts?!?!  Of course I talk to other dogs!!! And I don't mind one bit if others talk to mine or pet them. So long as they only say nice things!

Total dog talker here!!  I am just as much as a nuts as your husband thinks!!   After many years my husband has come to accept me just the way I am.  (I secretly think he is envious)

I love when people talk to my dogs.   So if you are in Omaha come and talk to Cosmo, Sam & Sadie anytime!!

Hahaa! I talk to peoples dogs all the time, when I'm out walking my girl.  My friends probably think I'm nuts, but they haven't said much about it yet.. just some teasing.

If it is creepy then I have to be the worst.  I talk to everyones dogs usually before the person.  We go to the dog park everyday and I can tell you almost every dogs name.  After thinking about it I only know 2 peoples names.     HAHAHAHAHA  I am sooo bad.  But I guess I just like dogs better than humans ohhh wellll
