question about my roof and insurance
« on: October 18, 2006, 03:59:28 pm »
I just bought my house a couple of months ago. It was a foreclosure. I had a roofer come out to do a separate inspection of the roof and insisted that the bank fix certain aspects of it. They did. Well, there were leaks that were not apparent at that time. I have three of them-two in the living room and one in my bathroom. I knew, coming into this, that I would need a roof in one to two years, but I wasn't planning on getting one now. Is this something insurance will cover? I'm not sure how I will pay for it otherwise. Do roofers take payments??

Which reminds me, I should probably add mold coverage to my policy if it isn't already on there, b/c this can't be good.

Any ideas? Advice? Know any cheap roofers in Austin TX who might exchange a new roof (I'm thinking tin) for photographic work??? ;)

I don't think insurance will cover it and I don't know any roofers who take payments, but some might if you ask.  If you do proffessional photography, you might want to look into local small business associations.  We belong to something called the Trade Exchange which allows businesses to do work for one another for full or partial trade.  Hope that helps!
My husband is always thinking about bidding for foreclosed houses.  Do you feel that you got a really good deal (not counting the roof) or is it not worth the hassle?

Thanks for the response. :)

I got a great deal on my house, but Austin's market is kind of unique at the moment, especially in my area. I made a great investment, assuming it doesn't crumble under me! ;)

I'm sending you a pm.

I don't think insurance will cover it either. Unless the leak was caused by something like wind. Leaks are hard to tell exactly where they are sometimes. One appeared in the bathroom yesterday. DH thought he had it fixed, but it's raining again to night and leaking again.

If the leaks are coming from where it was fixed you may some help there.

Not sure there is mold coverage in this type of situtaion.

So sorry this happening. Hope you find some answers.
