Izzy & seizures update # 3
« on: November 07, 2006, 11:50:20 am »
Okay , we met with a neurologist yesterday and they did all sorts of things with her , checking her motor skills and such .( I'm proud to announce I was told she is very advanced for her age . HEHEHE  ;D ) She has been seizure free for 4 & 1/2 weeks , but of course there's the chance they could come back . The doctor asked if we'd like to start meds now , or wait and see if she even ever has another seizure and we opted to wait and see . I learned alot about seizures and epilepsy in general , I always thought epilepsy was a disease that caused seizures , I did not realize it is a name for people that have seizures , alot of them having no reason why they have them . So yesterday when the doctor first said she had epilepsy I of course was totally scared , but after he explained things I realized she's "had epilepsy" since her 3rd seizure , ya learn something new every day ! There's an 80% chance she'll have more , but the longer she goes without having one the lower her chances get , I also thought epilepsy was something people had their whole lives , but that's not true either ! So , I'm doing lots of research now ( should have done alot more sooner ! ) and learning lots , learning I was mostly wrong about everything . But I have to say I feel so much better now , like we have a plan and things can be okay again ! The doctor also said " You know , I'm thinking that she may have had a seizure and that's what made her fall down the stairs " and I was totally shocked ! That's what I have been telling the other doctors all along and everyone kept saying " Noooo , she just had the wind knocked out of her at the bottom , and you were probably histarical anyway " but I just knew she didn't just fall down the stairs , she always took them backwards on her belly ( does that make sence ?) and she never once cried , not a single tear . The neurogolist just made me feel so much better and made me feel validated even though I kept getting told I was wrong . Sooooo , now we have some answers , and a plan , and can relax ! Woohoo , thankyou God !!! And thankyou to everyone for your thoughts , kind words , and prayers ,I appreciate it so much ! Hopefully I won't even be writing more posts obout seizures anymore , just about the kids and dogs  ;D

Awwww!  That's great news!  I will continue to pray for her that they don't return.  I'm thinking that I've heard that many kids grow out of them?  Funny how Drs don't trust you (about her falling down the steps).  She's your daughter and you know her best.  Glad you finally got some validation there and hope to hear that things continue to go well.

Wow!!  Sounds like you found a great neurologist. I'm so glad to hear you're closer to getting things under control, seizures can be so scary.  It's awesome you're doing so much research on epilepsy to understand it more, good for you!   :)

I'm so glad you updated us! That makes perfect sence about Isabelle falling down the stairs because of a seizure.
