i'm having problems with animal control again... i'm so mad.
« on: March 02, 2007, 01:12:58 pm »
there is a group of FOUR dogs that run our streets EVERY day, like clock work.  there's a golden retriever looking dog about 70lbs, and then, i know you're going to laugh at me, 2 chihuahua mixes about 20lbs and a jack russel terrier.  it really bothers me b/c they're trying to get IN my fenced yard, WITH my dogs.  it causes fights between my dogs, like today caine got his head stuck in the fence and it got REALLY messed up (we're going to see the vet right down the street to see if anything needs to be done), and axle then went after him, for some unknown reason.  so today, i called animal control, because we're ALWAYS having problems with these same dogs, and they told me "we'll try to have someone come out today and see if they're still running loose" i was like, well, UH, they all went in different directions right after i got pictures of 3 out of 4 of them!  he then asked if i knew where they lived...  WELL, if i did, i would have already said something to their owners!!  that's YOUR job to catch them and find out WTH!  i'm so frustrated with this, because i can't even leave my dogs outside for a little bit b/c these dogs are out all the time!

Awww, poor Caine! He looks so sad.  :'(  I hope the AC can find these dogs/owners and at least talk with them, I know how you feel about loose running dogs we have a lot of Boxers, German Shepards, Labs, Goldens running around here and you never know what their temperaments are like either, not safe for little ones running around outside!  Hope Caine feels better soon!

the AC guy finally came, and said he found one of the chihuahua's and tried to catch it, but could only get about 5ft away and it would try to go after him.  it was all funny, until he met the little brat of a dog!  so, he said since we can't just grab them, we might set traps within the next few days in my yard.  i'm also going to try to bait them, and block them into my yard.  everybody at AC thought it was so funny (and so did my mom) that i have miniature dogs harassing me, and i guess it is funny, but honestly, i can just imagine if they were to get in my yard it would be that "vicious pitbull" and "vicious akita and akita mix" and i would get blaimed, even though they are running loose.  i've made two complaints as of today, so hopefully something will come of it.  he thinks he found the home to one of the chihuahua's and i think i know where the big dog lives, but didn't mention that to him because i don't want any heresay floating around like what happened to me, so i'm going to look into that first.

I don't think it's funny at all!  People around here thought it was funny too when I said my 7lbs. Maltese would get growly and try to attack, until he attacked and bit my daughter in the face, then they didn't think it was so funny anymore.  Even if the dog is 2lbs, the bite can still draw blood and it can be painful!  Hopefully you can catch these dogs so they won't cause you anymore trouble.  Good luck!

i need all the luck i can get!  not only do i need to try to catch the dogs, i have to convince hubby that getting a sling shot after them just isn't an acceptable way to handle this.  he's pretty upset b/c of caine getting his face hung up, esp. since they're always tormenting our dogs.  i had to call and tell him b/c i'm going to need his help b/c caine keeps wrinkling his lip up at me when i try to touch him, so i can't get him cleaned up.  i made a 10 minute trip to the vet (including the drive because it's just on the main road), just to find that caine won't let anyone touch him, and get anti-inflammatory medicine and antibiotics.  the vet said if he'll let me later on, i can try to clean it up, but we didn't want to push him much more than he already has been today.  what a mess.

Im sorry about your experience with A/C.  Thank god I work at a shelter so I know how it can be sometimes but my district takes those cases pretty serious and gets an officer out there ASAP.  Poor Caine, I was wondering about your post where you said he keeps lifting his lip at you when you try and clean him up?  do you mean aggres.?

his face is pretty swollen and i know it's got to hurt, so he's really grouchy.  he's not being "mean" but he's just letting me know he wants to be left alone for right now.  i can't say i blame him, but it sure would make life easier if we could clean him up!  he doesn't try to bite or snap at me, but i'd rather just not push my luck.

my hubby would so love you right now, but honestly, i'd be worried that the owners would try to sue me for animal cruelty or some crazy stuff like that  :-\

i'm definately going to look into the laws about that, i know we have a lot of crazy laws about animals, like apparently i'm supposed to have 5 dog houses in my yard, 5 water bowls, and 5 food bowls with food at ALL times (yes, i actually called them and asked them about this, and it's a county law ???)

I had this same problem with a Pitbull that roamed our neighborhood. Called AC over 20 times with no results. Thats when I found out they sell silencers for paintball guns and they work rather well.
For those worried about hurting the dog with it... My son and his friends play with just tee-shirts, jeans and eye protection... they may get a few welts from close shots but have yet to be fatally wounded ;).

Aim for the butt it may hurt but I bet they never return.
