Harley RIP
« on: April 17, 2007, 03:05:38 pm »

I know this is kinda long but it is worth reading. I looked for harley almost every day we put so may signs up i m still taking them down. There were so many people looking for this pup even though it has a sad ending i learned there are alot of people that do care about animals! Marina

Harley is a mutt, Beagle/Hound/Lab mix approx 40lbs (by now he could have lost weight if he is not finding food). He is a very good medium size, he is taller than a Beagle. He is very small for a Lab. He is mostly Black/Tan with white markings.

Harley is a rescue dog who was rescued from horrbile life. We thought we had finally found a new home for him who could meet his special needs. He is very scare of new people, it takes time for him to get to know new people. The "new owners" was told to hold onto his leash for couple of weeks until they get to know each other whenever they take him outside regardless they had a fenced yard. Two hours after we left him there, the husband let the leash go.

When he escaped from the "new owner", he was wearing a Green collar with Gold Rabies Tag, he also had a choke collar and leash on him. The leash may still be dragging with him.

There hasn't been any more calls since March 16th. He could be anywhere.

We hope and pray he isn't stuck somewhere or a bad person got him for wrong reasons.

On March 3rd, He was lost in the area of Niagara St / NY-266 - River Rd / Roswell Av in Tonawanda (Buffalo).

On 3/7 - Harley moved on to Buffalo City, he was last seen on Hampshire St/ Niagara St heading towards to Peace Bridge and Downtown. He is still dragging his leash.

On 3/16 - We received a call, a man said he just seen our ad. He saw Harley earlier in the week, he couldn't remember what day. He was on Main St near Fairfield. That area is near Canisius College, Sisters Hospital and Delware Park. He said he was dragging a leash and he tried to get him as he was in the road, heading towards the city.

It appears he is traveling and not staying in one area.

It's very well possible he may be trying to find his way back to his home he knows in Albion.

He is sooo scared of new people,If you see him, Please do not approach quickly, go very slowly. If he runs, Don't Chase him, leave him alone and tell us where you last saw him and which direction he was heading, he won't go up to anyone if you try to get him or chase him it will only make it worse, he will run for his life because he is so scared. He has never been on streets before or on his own before. He does not know anyone in Buffalo or the area. He has never been in the city before. If you see him please try to keep eye on him and call with sightings of location.

If anyone tries to catch him, they would have to be very very patient and go very very slowly with him, I do not know if he would run blindly and not look at you. I feel he may because he usually tries to hide from new people or run if he has a chance. He knew when it was safe to come out when new people he doesn't know were gone. There may be a chance if he is cornered in 6 ft fence area, he has never tried to bite anyone before usually he would freeze or tries to get out of the collar if he could. I believe he has to be even more frighten, confuse and feeling very lost now being out in unfamiliar big city all by himself. I am real concern, I don't even know if he being so scared out there would even recognize us right away and come up to us and Simba - dog (who he loves to death) if we locate him in the city. We are not giving up hope and have faith.

Please Keep an eye out for him.

We are offering large Reward for his SAFE return

Thank you very much to everyone who called, has tried to help find Harley and crossposted for Harley.

April 2, 2007 - Very sad news, Four young boys riding on ATV found him deceased on the railroad tracks by Niagara St/Hampshire St/Peace Bridge.

We got a lot of emails about how bad the area is, alot of drug addicts, pitbull fighting and how cruel people are to animals in that area. Even thou the area was not really good or safe, we want to say there was enough caring people in the area, we got the most calls from that area on March 7th when he was seen traveling on Niagara St/Hampshire St. Sadly, we were not able to locate him. We think he probably got hit by a car on Niagara St that night and that is how he ended up on the railroad tracks which was only two blocks away from Hampshire St.

We really do give these young boys who were about 11,12,13 yrs old a lot of credit !!! They did not see the flier or the ad, they went out of their way to call on the tag and picked his body up and brought him back to their house for us to pick him up. They thought we would like to know and may want to give him a proper burial. They were even concern for us to see the body and gave us hugs. One of the boy's mom called to made sure we got home safe !! They didn't even want the reward money but we made sure they took it. We are very thankful they took the time to help and let us know. We would have never found him on the railroad tracks which was behind buildings along Niagara St and 190.

We really really wished it was different ending, at least we know Harley is in heaven and peace. It should have never happened. It's really terrible and sad his life ended that way so short because of careless husband didn't hold on to his leash. He said he let his leash go. It was not an accident. The couple was repeatedly told not to let the leash go, even thou they had fenced yard, for couple of weeks until they got to know each other. Harley would have been just fine if they listened to us, he needed time to get to know them sadly they never gave him the chance.

Thanks again for all your help
