Favorite Camping and Dog Friendly Places
« on: July 10, 2005, 08:02:08 pm »
We are planning on getting a pop up trailer and eventually traveling with our dogs to various places. Since you guys are a wealth of information, I thought I would start a post on our favorite dog friendly spots and/or camping destinations. I heard there is a campground in South or North Carolina that caters to dogs. It has a dog park, agility equipment (I think) and pond for the doggies! Haven't been there but I hope there are others like that out there!

That would be awesome Tina!...I plan on never in Samson's lifetime leaving him behind so maybe I could actually go somewhere then!...Also, we may need to find a dog friendly hotel in S. Central Missourri if we need to drive the whole way to get Delilah. (get Delilah..oh how I love saying that! ;D)

I haven't taken Zoey on a vacation yet - we haven't even been on a vacation in the year we've had her. But here are some links that list dog friendly hotels to help you out:

Jenn,
I finally found the website for that North Carolina campground!! It has an off-leash park with pond, agility, rally obedience, classes, grooming and bathing, etc. If you go let us know how it is. It is in Rutherfordton, NC. Website:     www.4pawskingd om.com

I appreciate the responses..... .I was more hoping for personal experiences and places you have been and recommend. I have been on so many websites but I don't know places that are good. Thanks!

Hey! Well, I used to live in North Carolina....ki nda close to Rutherfordton. I lived in Chapel Hill. I must say that although the dog park sounds AWESOME...Ruth erfordton itself isn't exactly a vacation spot! But, you could go there if you were going to check out some of the nicer parts of North Carolina.

There is a place in Durham called Duke Forest. Its a nature preserve owned by Duke University. We used to take the dogs there every weekend (and I jogged with the doggies there during the week). Its got a river going through it (The Neuse) and there are always TONS of doggies there! Everyone loves dogs and is really responsible with them. There are tons of trails and some of them are kinda rugged. (That was great when we still had our Husky, Tsunami) I highly recommend it. I can give directions if anyone needs them, but I bet there's info on the duke university website ( www.duke.edu )

The state parks in North Carolina are kinda stinkers about dogs. They MUST be on a leash at ALL times (even in the water!) and it is strictly enforced. They're also not real tolerant of barking and what-not. I didn't really like the state parks in North Carolina too much. I mean, I'm totally fine with keeping Cabeza on a leash, but, I'm just saying that there was a real unfriendly vibe going on at the State Parks. Ya know?

Anyway, I hope this helps!

Oh! Sorry...I didn't realize how close Rutherfordton was to the mountains! So, yeah...it could be a really cool place to go!
