hey Gypsy, it sounds like we have a lot in common!
- it's my 10th anniversary this year, too
- my husband's a trucker
- we have too many critters to go away very often (I usually have a friend or a frirnd's teenager stay at my house when we go).

where do you live??
I live in Eastern IA...near Dubuque...Send your friend here so I can go on vacation this year...lol...3 out of the past 4 family vacations to Missourri I stayed home & my hubby & kids went...I think I got the real vacation though!...lol!

Gypsy, that's so bizarre! I grew up in Omaha!! Been to Iowa TONS of times. My aunt & cousins lived in Red Oak and I'd stay there every summer for a couple weeks.

Why don't you try finding a teen you trust from church or a friend's kid. They'd love the time away from their parents and you could get away. Or, this year - tell hubby and kids to stay home and take off by yourself!

Come to Louisiana! I'll put you up here and you'll still get plenty of sloppy dog kisses.

Omaha huh?...I love the zoo there!...My hubby grew up in Harlan, Iowa but when his mom & dad divorced his dad remarried & moved to Council Bluffs...When I used to go on vacation...lol ...I would go to C.B. & we'd venture over to Ohmaha & go out while his dad & step mom watched the kids...This year actually Randy stayed home on his vacation & his mom & step dad came here...So, that was o.k. except they were here a week out of his 9 days off...I would have liked to have him all to myself...I am so greedy...lol.. .As far as having a teenager stay here to watch my critters...I just can't do it...I trust very few people with their care & I remember how I was as a teenager. :o LOL!...I have pretty much decided I just am never going anywhere again especially now that I have Samson & Arwen will be coming...I don't feel put out in the slightest however! :) My whole life has been dedicated to my family & critters...It was a desision I made & though I get a bit grumpy at times I really wouldn't have it any other way!...Truthfully, I like staying home...We camp for a couple of days each summer & that's enough for me!...There's lots of people out there in the world & they annoy me...lol!...However, I must say that your invite to Lousiana sounds nice...Maybe one day I'll be able to do something like that when Randy retires...lol! ;D

Gypsy,
Or you could send Samson to NC for me to watch then you could go to Disney. Tonka would love that. We went to the dog park yesterday and she played with all the dogs, her favorite was the Great Dane they were so cute together, he was the only large breed there besides her.

It's great that Tonka loves other dogs!...So does Sammy!...Sometimes when he won't come in out fo the yard I have to open the door of the house & say, "Hi Chopper"! (My sister's Collie pup) Sam comes running only to find no Chopper...I know, bad of me but it works...Not as well as it used to though...He's not that stupid....lol!

Maybe BPO can set up a network of us to watch each other's pups so we can go on vacation!  Like, I'll vacation in Iowa at your house and watch your dogs while you vacation in Louisiana and watch my dogs!

I understand about you not trusting too many people with your fur-babies, though. I went through a bunch of people I thought I trusted only to come back and find the dog's water bucket bone dry or the litter box had never been cleaned in a week - stuff like that.

The Omaha zoo is THE BEST! Every time I go home, that is a must visit.  I never thought I'd miss the midwest after moving down here and not having to shovel snow in the winter, but I'm really missing it now.

I think by this time next year, we'll be in Minnesota with my husband's family. Then, maybe we really can come visit you! Or we'll meet in Omaha. You can bring your dogs and leave them at my parents house. I'm sure they won't mind. They are almost as dog crazy as I am.

K...That would be really cool! ;D I would love to meet you!!!...My last straw for pet sitters was before I even got Samson...I had my brother stay at my house with the cats...I boarded my guinea pigs & bunnies...Temp s in Iowa were in the 90's that week...I had a screened in porch that the cats went out on when they wanted to...Well, when the cats didn't come right back in when he wanted them too from the screened in porch he just figured they wanted to be out there & left them out there!...When I came home I was met with a terrible litter box stench...It was clean but the smell made it evident that it has JUST been scooped & the water dish that was put out on the back porch had many lines where the water had dried up...I wondered how long they went without water!...Also, he let my only unspayed cat out ( Ihadn't had her long...she was a ferel) & she got pregnant...Tha t's how we got our last cat Little Bitty Henry The 8th...Mama only had 2 & one didn't make it 24 hours...There was nothing we could do...NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...Though we are very happy to have little Henry! ;D

That would be awesome, I am going on vacation next week and brandon will be staying home with little Tonka, I don't really trust anyone other than his parents or my mom to watch her.  It is just way to hot for her at the beach anyway, we will be taking her in the fall so she can swim. Here is a pic of her swimming this weekend.

Oh yeah, and then there was the time we went on vacation right before Hurricane Lilly hit. I had a sitter lined up, but they backed out because they were evacuating so I called another rescuer at the last minute who graciously agreed to come over a couple times a day to take care of my animals. Well, when she came over one cat ran out the door so she just left the garage door open so he could come back in. We had a cat door that went from the kitchen out to the garage where the litter boxes were at the time so ALL the cats (we had about 12 at the time with fosters) got outside and when we got home (after a week) the neighbors were LIVID because they had been pooping in their yard.

I couldn't blame them. I had to do some major damage control. We NEVER intentionally let our cats roam around outside.

Also, the storm scared my collie mix so much the door from the kitchen to the garage had been shredded and no one bothered to clean up the mess.
