Newfoundland puppy

So my name is Brianna and im new to this site. I am getting a newfoundland puppy thats going to be 8 weeks. Can anyone tell me how they will do with 2 kittens. They are indoor kittens and new to my house. And is there any other advice i can get from anyone. I have already bought everything i need for the puppys arrival. I am flying out to tennesse to pick him up.

Well I can only tell you my experience with my pup (11 weeks got her at 8 weeks). Koda was very relaxed around our cat (2 yrs old) from the very beginning and the cat wasn't afraid of her. The problem is our pup wants to play and plays a little to hard. The cat attacks back but his bites don't even phase the pup. So now it is just our rule that Koda can not play with the cat, she is just too big. Koda is 28lbs now and the cat about 5lbs. There is just too much size difference, and the cat isn't strong enough to teach Koda a lesson. Koda likes the cat and I think when she gets older and doesn't want to mouth everything and everybody her and the cat will get a long just fine. If your cats are babies you will need to be extra watchful. Welcome and post lots of pupper pictures.

Hi Brianna.  Welcome to BPO!!  I'm Stephanie, mom to Sierra, the 11 month old Newf and Magic, the 8 year old Black Lab.  Get ready for an addiction cuz you're gonna love it here.  Everybody is more than willing to be helpful, whether it's an issue with your pup or even if it has nothing to do with your dog.  This is a great group and if you have a question, SOMEONE here has the answer you're looking for.

My experience with newfs and kitties - Sierra was a little rambunctious when we brought her home.  My cats are adults whose only experience with dogs was my aunt's two golden retrievers who tried to attack them, so I kept the cats away until Sierra settled in.  Maybe that was a mistake or maybe my dog is just a retard, but she won't give them a moment of peace.  She doesn't try to hurt them, but they have become her favorite chase toy.  I think supervised introductions with someone holding and petting your pup and someone holding and petting the kitty may be best, befreo the pup has time to establish the house as theirs.   I think that's what I may have did inadvertantly. ..

Welcome, Brianna!  I am Mommy to Bodhi, a 17 month old bronze Newfie (the gorgeous boy in my avatar!).

We have 5 cats in our home.  Bodhi adores them.  When I first brought him home they were his main playmates because he was only 12 pounds, about the same size as them.  Now he is about 140 pounds, but still loves the cats....and amazingly, they seem to feel the same way about him.  The cats have definitely set the parameters...i f Bodhi gets too rough, they will not hesitate to smack him with their claws out and make him yelp and run away.  But that happens VERY rarely.  For the most part they quite tolerant with him, and seem to understand that he is big and clumsy and they can get away from him (they dart left, he plows past them and hits a wall, lol).  Occasionally, a cat will walk into the room with Newfie slobber all over it's back and looking a bit miffed, haha....but they continue to go back to play with him again! 

That being said, it is important to keep an eye on any playing.  These big dogs have only limited understanding of their size and strength.  Bodhi is VERY gentle with his mouth, he never bites down at all....but what he thinks is a friendly toss of his paw could knock a cat across a room! 

I've always had at least one big dog (though Bodhi is the biggest), and my experience has been that they are quite loving toward cats.  I don't know if that's a normal trait, or if I've just been lucky!

And Holly is right....it is required that you post as many pictures of your new baby as possible! LOL!
