dog ownership woes
« on: March 24, 2008, 09:32:44 pm »
You know...i seem to be having a hard time separating emotion from my disipline. Titan bit jaz to the point that she yelped (jaz is the most easy going, awesome trained pup IMO) i ran outside and screamed at Titan. I seem to always put emotion into my disipline and i need to learn to separate them.  Titan ran the other way, and had issues coming inside to me again (i don't blame him). But i am still mad at him...i just wondering if anyone else feels like this at times...mind you it is probaly PMS...but this situation deal with these da** female emotions just kick in!!!! anyone else feel this way?   I don't know why i do this, i know it is going to take a day or so for him to trust me again...aahhh. ....(sigh)...what would i do with out them?????? (most likely be miserable)

We all lose our cool periodically but it is CRITICAL that you not hold a grudge (staying angry)  Dogs learn by the moment- there is absolutely no way that Titan can associate you being angry with rough-housing several hours prior.  The only thing you are teaching him is that you are not to be trusted. We all yell at our dogs when exasperated but then you need to DROP IT- over done.  BTW yelping is the way that dogs teach each other not to play too rough so actually Titan did nothing wrong but in his mind this screaming banshee came raving across the yard acting like a mad woman- no wonder he's scared!  :>)
(I have PBGVs and they are very dramatic- you should hear the screeching and wailing they do when playing- great lesson for me  If they are not killing each other I let them work it out)
