« on: October 06, 2005, 02:48:42 am »
Ok Im sure this is as far off topic I could get LOL but I just had to share these pics of my husband playing Hockey. He plays goalie and has been playing since way before I met him. I didnt even know a darn thing about hockey till we got married. I still dont, but I love yelling at anyone who even looks at my husband wrong LOL He plays for the local adult league and everyone knows who I am  ;D Here are some pics I took of him at his game last night. Keep in mind my camera is not made for action shots LOL

I know nothing of hockey either. I only been to one hockey game just because my friends were going. Now that sounds pathetic.

Great pictures. We live and breathe hockey around here. Dale used to play net, but when the kids started he quit so we could afford for both of them to play. The pictures are of Nick, my (now) 18 year old. He's played since he was 4. Casey, my daughter plays defense, but I don't have any pics of her on this computer.

Awesome pictures!!! I really need a better camera  :-\ My youngest, Skyla, wants to play goalie just like her daddy LOL Here are a few pictures of her playing "hockey" with her daddy

Oh and on the afford part...I had no clue goalie equipment was so darn expensive LOL He got the 11.8 Itechs, suppose to be one of the good pads  :o I thought we were going to be living in a cardboard box after that LOL

Equipment is bad enough, but what keeps me in a full time job is the fees and travel expenses.
I don't know what it is like there, but youth club hockey here runs about four grand a year each, because the kids play year-round. Then they each have two out of state tournaments and one in-state tournament per year. You have to pay your own and players travel and hotel fees, meals, ect. In addition, Nick has played exhibiton tournaments in Russia and Sweden.
Whenever my husband complains about how much it costs to keep my big dogs, I smile sweetly and remind him who stays home to work while he does all the tournaments and travels in the lap o'luxury! ;D ;D ::)

Great pics!!  Tony's new love is hockey.  I hear about it day and night, and when theres a game within a 100 mile radius he'll go.  I have yet to go to a game because he's pretty embarrassing to be around, he gets drunk and tries to start crap with others cause we all know hockey players like to fight and then it gets the viewers all pumped up to start stuff with others, and well..... I'd just rather stay out of it! lol  If it's not hockey he's talking about it's football, so all in all, it's like he's speaking a different language to me.  I just dont' understand him! LOL  ;D

There is a different code of conduct at professional and college games for fans and players. Because we're involved in a kids version, there is zero tolerance for fighting on the ice and in the stands. Players and parents have been banned for losing control. Contact on the ice (checking) is only allowed starting at 11 and the last year of eligibility is senior in high school. After that they have to go in the adult leagues.

I was hoping they had really strict laws on kids hockey and fighting, because my nephew is a hockey player, I think he's 13 now, but the PARENTS are the ones that start crap in those games.

Tony only goes to pro hockey games so yeah he gets to see lots of fighting.  To tell ya the truth I think he goes just to see the fights!  I think I need to call all the hockey rinks in this area and put an APB out on Tony saying he should only have a 3 drink minimum! lol

I dont mean for it to sound like I beat up people...I just voice my opinoin if some one hurts my husband LOL One game, in general, the other time had a plan to take my husband out [hurt him], well that didnt go over to well in my books. These players were trying to hit my husband in certain ways so he would get hurt. The adult League is suppose to be No Contact, but oyu always have certain people who dont listen. I dont want you to think i am beating up people in the stands, Im not that mean LOL

That's awesome Blair! I love hockey....the fighting and speed of it is the best. Unforutnately, the local team here stinks so bad that we never go to any games.

OH no, no, Blair! Please don't think that I meant any direspect to you! I meant in general, betweenthe different ages playing, there is no drinking allowed in the stands or fistfighting. We holler and cheer and stomp too. And when there is a bad call or an illegal hit and one of our kids are down we go a little crazy too, and opinions are voiced loudly and on no uncertain terms. But having attended both types of games for years I by far prefer youth hockey. There is something so endearing about watching 6 and 7 year olds during a game doing their best and still bumbling, fumbling and falling over each other, and still get off the ice with a huge grin of accomplishment on their faces. It's like watching a litter of puppies chase each other and a ball in the back yard. It just leaves you with a basket full of warm fuzzies.
Nick's games however are very fast, and very rough. We switched clubs at one point and under the new club banner Nick had to play his old teammates. In the second period they hit him in the crease when he was covering the puck.He played the rest of the game with a 3rd degree shoulder separation because they told him before the game that if he stepped on the ice, they would carry him off. I understand the protective feelings quite well. If I could have gotten a hold of those kids I'd have ended up in prison.
