Oldest Newfie

 I am curious to know what is the longest anyone has had a Newfie for?  I know they don't have a long lifespan.

  My friend that has a newf also had a landseer but she died last year at the age of 8.  It was very very sad.  The friend that I speak of is our neighbor at my work place, I am a horse trainer so therefore I work on a horse farm.  The landseer( Candy) wandered over one day and she got into the pasture and everytime she tried to get out she kept getting zapped by the electric wire, she had to be put down the next day, it was horrible.

  Here is a word of advice for anyone who has an older big dog around any electric fence, please be careful, poor Candies heart just couldn't handle it and her belly bloated terribly a lot.  I went over to say good-bye to her the morning that the vet was coming out to put her down and let me tell you that was soooo hard to do, she was a wonderful dog.

  It is a sad story but I hope that by telling it it could be prevented from happening to another wonderful Big dog.

What a tragic story! Poor dog...that is an awful way to go.

We're on our first Newf but our breeder has 2 old Newfs who are 11 and 13 respectively. I think that I heard the oldest one on record was 14 or 15 years old.

BTW, what kind of horses do you train? Where are you located?

I am located in NS, Canada and I raise, breed and train the Norwegian fjordhorse here is a pic of our first foal from this year... we are expecting 4 more.

Her name is BDF Willemena, she was born Aril 19th/2005

One of the oldest newfies..was named Henry. You can read about him in a book called: Henry Forver: The Gift of Life by Claire Carr. Henry lived to be over 17yrs old.
